Mods to snow flap?

I rode the other night with a friend of mine who rides a Renegade 1000, and he had cut his snowflap down. He atated that it helps when backing up, to not run it over, and as long as it wasn't too short, it wouldn't affect cooling.
We'll since Apex's don't cool from underneath the tunnel, and I always seem to get stuck on the snowflp when backing, could it hurt anything to shorten it? I haven't paid much attention to the '07's but which would be better?

07 ATTAK--Backed over mine 3 times last weekend--shortened it to the cut-off line below "YAMAHA".Put on 90 miles since--no problem.

Yup, this is the way to go. Comes in black, blue and red. Works perfect and NO MORE BACKING OVER THE FLAP!!!!
 
Here's the solution: Get the '07 snowflap and cut it to the line. It can't get caught in the track when backing up, it offers plenty of length when riding and the extra rigidity keeps it in place very well. Machzed wrote that it won't get caught. Unfortunately it will as I regretably found out. I was worried about spraying too much snow because of the decreased length. Several riders I asked said they noticed no difference. Actually a very simple fix.
 
Put a strap on it for free..Look at 03 firecats or search for post. I put a post and pic a while back. I think it looks better than nothing IMO.

Only way it can get caught is IF you bent the bracket inward underneath to the point where new ridgid flap could get sucked inward...so you either backed off the trailer really fast and it bent it under,or you backing into a bank and it bent bracket....my statement was made assuming you arent bending things out of place.

this was the entire theory of the new flap...it was because of tunnels being bent mostly.

the OLD style flaps IMO are a throwback to my 82 enticer...Im so glad they made a new style,and If it were me i would never buy an OLD looking flap or use the shorter old flap..too ugly and ancient.

the new flap brings the rear of sled into this century and makes it match its awesome look!...you can cut the new flap IF you feel you need to...unless you BENT the bracket underneath,you wont need to worry about getting it caught up.

Its as simple as being more aware when reversing off trailer...no brain surgery here...just slow and easy....and it wont hit ground.

You're right about the scenarios you described. What I'm suggesting eliminates them. In a perfect world we could all be in a nice flat and packed snow area when we need to back-up. Unfortunately, those situations aren't always there. When reversing direction on or off trail it is not unusual to have loose, unpacked snow that drives the flap up into the track area. By cutting the flap to the line you take away any chance of it catching without sacrificing the purpose of the flap. As I stated, simple fix.

That is what I did, got the shorter one. My sled is adjusted to sit a little lower for better handling too, so that one is better for me
 
i cut my stock 06 flap dow to the line just under the yamaha a few weeks a go and it nolonger gets caught when backing up (which it did every time i backed out of the clamshell). but now for some reason its getting eaten up by the studs, so i wouldnt cut it that short, maybe split between the line and the bottom.
