Do you remove the shock end or the adjuster end of the RA cable when you want to take out the shock? Any suggestions on how to peel back the rubber boot to remove the cable ends?
For me it was easier to disconnect the cable at the shock than at the adjuster. This sus is actually pretty easy to work on. The trick with pulling the shock or the entire sus is to REMOVE THE CONTROL ROD REAR MOUNTING BOLT first. It disconnects the front and rear arms and removes the tension from the system and makes things much easier to work with.
To pull just the shock:
1. Disconnect the cable at the shock
2. Remove the control rod rear mounting bolt
3. Remove the shock rear mounting bolt.
4. Remove the shock front mounting bolt and remove the shock.
To pull the entire susp:
1. Remove the three allen head screws that mount the adjuster to the tunnel and leave the adjuster and cable hanging from the susp.
2. Remove the control rod rear mounting bolt.
3. Remove the susp rear mounting bolts
4. Remove the susp front mounting bolts
5. Pull the susp assy out with cable and adjuster attached.
If spring preload has been increased you might need someone to compress the susp slightly to remove or install the control rod bolt.
Otherwise - piece of cake!
In type787x' post it is mentioned to remove the control rod rear mounting bolt, and then I see on Totally Yamaha's tech page that nothing is mentioned about this, but it says to remove the two bolts securing the front limiter strap.
Which method is best?
Also, is it best to remove the RA adjuster from the tunnel, or can you just disconect the cable from the shock?
I tell you want it's a pain in the #*$&@ getting the cable reinstalled. I've trying to get it right for a couple days. I have it all screwed up right now. I'm going to fix it today with the help of my brother
