Mono skid faster than pro active?

Same scenario here, I have a bud with an 07 RTX and I had my 06 RTX stock last year and on Cranberry Lake I was always ahead of him by a few sled lengths in 1/2 mile runs.

Damn guess he's always gonna be that little bit faster lol I am never gonna live this one down. he loves that he has always been faster even back in the 2 smoke days. oh well at least I'm not the only one and now I know it is the skids that make the difference and that there's not something wrong with the setups or my 07. Thanks for all the input guys. Apexrider I am running the original heel clickers in both, never tried the white secondary spring. I am gonna play with some helix angles just for fun I have a 51/36 dalton, 50/34 recut yami and a 48/40 advant edge that I will experiment with and see what happens but that's about it.

Sounds good. How thick is the ice on Sharbot Lake ?
We have our fun on Graham Lake, but we,re still waiting for the ice to thicken up. We.re getting anxious to get out again soon. Let us know how the helixes work out. How big a job would it be for you guys to switch suspensions to prove out your theories on that ?

I was gonna ask the same...I can't believe Sharbot Lake is frozen over enough. How thick can that ice be?

i am on the lower shallower end of sharbot in hawley's bay and in my bay right in the middle there was 7 1/2" last weekend. in the wider end of my bay where a few of the other bays meet it was only 3 inches so i just stayed away from that area and still had tons of room to play around. there is hardly any snow on the lake so that should help it to thicken up in the next week with the cold temps. the upper end of sharbot only froze over like last wed or thursday so probably only 2 or 3 inches but should be good to go soon. i'm also nuts though lol and will ride on 3 or 4 inches as long as i don't stop hahaha

Didn't someone say that the RTX with the ck skid was faster with the stock 22 tooth gear?

Yes, in the 1/4 mile... The mono suspension top ends better... I just thought it took a little bit of a longer run for the mono to get by, like past 112-115mph and then start cruising by.

it was at my cottage on sharbot lake. i don't see why it wouldn't pull the 24 it's the same motor and the 06 comes stock with a 24. just ordered 2 23 tooth gears to try gonna try them one at a time switch the 07 to 23 run them see who wins then switch the 06 to the 23 as well then retest. the 06 had a 23 tooth in it last year and seemed to run even stronger with even more top end. why do you think swapping all the clutches would make a difference? maybe something worn in the 07 you're thinking? both clutches are running the exact same weight and both sleds are hitting 10600-10700 rpm
Hello there snowrules!
Just wondering if you ever had the chance to test the 07 RTX with the 23t gear? I want to put that combo in mine but would like to know if it gave you more top end before I spend the money on the gear as well as on the longer 70L chain.

Thanks,

Darren

hey Darren i never had a chance to run it in good conditions we got a bunch of snow right before i put the 23 gear in so the lake was no good anymore for speed runs. not sure what to tell ya. it definately pulls harder off the line and in the midrange though. it didn't feel like it lost anything on top but again the lake had about 6 inches of snow on it and i don't have any real numbers to back anything up sorry.

we both had new hyfax, we weigh within 10 pounds of each other, we both have 4th wheel kits, 3 small extra wheel kits installed on each and oversize mid and rear idlers to the point where our tracks barely even touch the hyfax anywhere. we had also just set track tension the same on each sled as the tracks are both brand new and we kept checking them all day as they broke in and stretched a bit. now that i think of it i did have a brand new belt on the 07 and his 06 had about 2000 kms on it. so maybe just that combo of different skid and thinner belt was all it took. also may try ditching the excell for stock against his gutted and see what happens. thanks for the input guys keep it coming.
Get rid of all the extra wheels on one of the sleds. Every bearing takes energy to spin. You don't need all these wheels if you are running on snow. Let the hyfax do its thing. It is more efficient than wheels.

I added wheels to my fx Nytro and I gained 5 to 6 mph.

I have an 07 apex rtx and my dad has an 06 rtx. 06 has the mono 07 has the pro active. Had them out on the lake this past weekend with only about an inch of snow on the ice so great conditions for some speed runs. both sleds are virtually identical. both have 24-38 gearing, 1 1/4" predator tracks with the same 1.325 woodys studs with the same pattern, ram air lids, same heel clicker setup in the primary, both stock secondary set at 60 degrees, 06 has a gutted stock exhaust and 07 has an excell. lined them up numerous times on the weekend from dead stop to rolling starts at different speeds. the 07 will take the 06 off the line and in the midrange everytime and jump ahead by about 8-10 sled lengths probably because the pro active skid seems to get better weight transfer than the mono. but at about 150-160 kmh the 06 reels me in fast and blows right by me. by the time we are both topped out he now has about 8 sled lengths on me and his speedo is reading about 206 kmh and mine is reading only 198. is the mono skid that much faster than the pro active? and even if it is I can't see how he can make up that much ground and continue to pass me so easily. it's almost like his set up just makes that much more power than mine but i figured power wise they would be just about dead nuts even. also while doing some other testing on the same day i ended up putting his sled back to stock, stock exhaust stock airbox and he was still able to catch me and pass me this time by only about 2 sled lengths and it took him a bit longer to make up the ground. any thoughts i really didn't think the skids would make that much difference but it's really the only thing different between the two sleds . help can't let my dad keep kicking my *ss like this :o|
The sleds should not have the same gears in them, your 07 should be 22/38 and 06 24/38,my 07 always was quicker than my 06 rtx, till 110 than the 06 would pass it.

Thats ok, I know how it goes, do a speed run in perfect conditions & by the time ya change the clutching or gearing the conditions take a turn for the worst, lol!!!
Oh well, when the conditions are good for another test run let us know how you make out.

will do might get my buddy with a plow on his 4 wheeler to make me a nice test strip this weekend if he's around. but i will for sure post some result when i can get some good testing done.
