Mono Skid Install

Im installing an 06 mono skid in my 03 RX1 is there anything Im not going to like about it, ie what problems are they haveing?????

I am doing the same thing! It dosent look to bad, the rear mounts are in the correct spot. for the front I have tunnel brackets for a 05 RX on order.
I am going to post the whole procedure with part#'s when finished.
 
If it's an 06 skid there's not much to worry about..just make sure it's greased. Skid works awesome!!
 
The mono skid's weight transfer and ski pressure is affected by the relative position of the mounting holes in the tunnel.

I'd recommend you install it using the same hole locations used in the 05 RX-1, not the 06/07 Apex.

Depending on which bolt pattern you use, you will need the correct weight transfer adjuster. The 05 RX-1 and 06/07 Apex use a different weight tranfer adjuster (different lengths).
 
I checked on my brothers 06 Apex and the part # for the front brackets are the same as an o5 RX, Dont forget that the Apex is still an RX chassis, there are holes in the front mount brackets already that line up on the 03 RX chassis,Center to center is the same, Rear maount holes are the same, I dont know about the transfer rod yet. But Ill be doing some playing on this anyway, Put in mono to ride better but if it solws me down on top end shes comming back out (my rx will smoke my brothers apex)

otis, how does your RX handle with the 06 geometry and 06 weight transfer rod?

My understanding was it would weelie too much with that geometry in an RX-1.

BARMAD69, the weight transfer rods are definitely different between the 05 RX-1 and 06/07 Apex. Everything else is fully interchangeable and the only other part numbers that are different (other than the weight transfer rod assy) are the slide rails. The 06 rails do work on the 05 and they are stronger. I was told the reason for the different weight transfer rods is because the rear tunnel holes are in a different location on the Apex to compensate for the rider forward setup (probably worth measuring an 05 RX and compare it to an Apex).

When you say smoke him on top end,what are you seeing for gps speeds or radar speeds on your rx1 cause my 03 rx1 with cat skid would run 117 gps and all stock it would run 115 gps,my attak could run 114 gps and now its a shortie apex and i have not had a good run on ice with it yet...

Ive had a couple of passes on radar at 123.15/124.06 of course the dreamometer is showing 133 and 134, boy would that be nice to achive those speeds without nos or turbo.
Changes to my sled are,ECP kit with Evac,Holtzman springs and jets,Wahl bros. external drivers,my own clutching,o-s-o primary,white secondary,06 mono skid,sdi-doo slides,gutted exhaust,engine broke in hard and fast(WFO) loose track 96 worn out picks,Had 192 in but threw one into the cooler so I removed them from the outside belts, to many studs slow you down anyway. I dont know but I seem to always get a good one out of the box, 92 Exciter II,03 V-Max 4, 03 RX all faster than my brothers same sleds.

Holy poop batman,thats one smoking 03 rx1 or apex or anything,wow 124 on the gun is very respectable,i hope that skid does not slow you down,and i am trying to achieve 120 plus on gps with my now 06 apex er,i think i can do it,but only time will tell.. Good luck with the skid swap,the 06 ra does rock for sure..lol

It handles much better than with the proaction junk stock skid. I have no problems with too much transfer or wheelies. Actually I didn't have it set up with enough at first and had to play with the transfer rod some to get it just right. There is a ton of adjustment on the 06 transfer rod so even if you were a touch off you would be able to adjust for it.

At 225 I did have to put the heavy spring in. The ride quality is so much better than before. I was considering another new sled, but now with my mods I am where the new sleds are at for much less money.

If you can find an Apex skid for good money definately put it in the RX-1 chassis.

Good to know. So an 06 skid can be bolted into an RX-1 using the 06 locations and it works well.
 
The skid is in and WOW what a difference,Of course I cant ride it yet but you can feel an amazing amount of difference just by sitting and bouncing on it , Had it out in the hay field for a couple hundred yards feels sooooo good, just have to figure out the adjustments on it now, but I already love it, between the skid and the reverse now Im set.
