Am I the only one having problems with the tabs bending? Yamaha is the only manuf. not using the 2 bolt mount.
I don't know how common the cracked/bending tabs is, but with the guys I ride with we've seen it a few times. The front pivot arms are breaking very regularly, but the rails are cracking roughly every 8000km/5000miles (or more).
I think your solution is one of the best ones out there. Two bolts would be much stronger than one and the combination of the larger idler wheel and a mount that is already designed for the 6205 bearing is ideal.
I am now running 135mm idler wheels for the front 4 idler locations. I can't believe it took me so long to try this out. I can ride in the worst snow conditions and my slides run cool always. My sled also slides incredibly well now. On any small slope the sled "rolls" down the hill, forward or backward.
In my case I'm running the stock diameter in the inner rear idler locations (the place where you are seeing the cracks). I figured there was no point increasing the load here when they are already prone to cracking.
Probably the #1 advantage (to me) in running the oversized idler wheels is the fact that the slides absolutely never overheat - even when brand new. This lack of heat should help with track and track clip life span (as well as providing incredible slide life). Whenever I changed my slides with the stock idlers I used to spend the next 200+ miles constantly dipping into snow to the slides cool (so they would slowly wear in). Now I can just ride normally right away.
Is there any chance that this issue was addressed with the2008 Apex?

This year with nearly 3000kms on my '08 Apex LTX I barely have worn my slides, std size idlers with closed windows every 3rd...
It has to do with snow conditions...this year I've been running on mostly snow covered trails and it makes a BIG diference on wear!
I also ride with a RX1 '05 with a FULLY clipped Ripsaw track and the funny thing is, he's wearing his slides quicker than mine on the very same conditions? so which is better...fully clipped or closed every 3rd...oversize idlers tend to crack/break rails...I think it has to do with varying CONDITIONS and RIDING STYLE...

I changed my track in the middle of last season with a fully clipped rippsaw, from the oem 3rd window, and had alot more issues with the slides heating up.
With a new sled ,the rail tabs are still sraight. After I had 4000 mi. is when the issues started with the tabs bending, and the sliders burning. If you ride in nothing but perfect cond. may never have any issues, but after last years crappy winter, trails with rocks, frozen ground, tree roots,an so on take thier toll on the equipement. Still no excuse, guys riding other brands didn't have rail issues because of the same conditions.

Berge,
Do the Doo mounts bolt right up to the Apex skid or did you have to modify them?

Will the doo 135 wheels bolt right on?

They're real close, just need to file a few thousands off the bottom of the groove, then they snap tight to the rail.If you use the stock bolt you need to drill the top hole in mount bigger to fit. Not a big deal.JTD0314 said:Berge,

update..
2650 miles on my slides with maybe 50% wear..
This is alot better than changing them every 400 miles..

I added the Doo wheels and brackets to the original locations in the skid except for the very front and added the narrow hyfax. I also added the wheels and brackets to the area between the inner wheels and the rear to help with the Hyfax wear in that area. The first picture is from after riding about 10 miles of hard pack between 60 and 80 mph. The groomer went through the night before and then the temps got to about -5 degrees, the trails were hard pack with hardly any snow dust to lube the Hyfax. The Hyfax were new before the trip and after our ride the day before still looked new but after our 10 mile run in the poor conditions the Hyfax were half worn. The second picture is after the addition of the wheels and brackets. After about the same amount of miles in the same conditions the Hyfax still look new. I really do think I will get thousands of miles on the Hyfax now.

I have an 07 Attak GT. I had read about the heavy hyfax wear issues and did not understand as I was not having problems. I was having good luck with hyfax wear this year and had put 2600+ miles on before hyfax needed replacement. I did notice some wear at the spot in the middle of the rail. I added a Yamaha Marginal Snow Wheel Kit and replaced the hyfax before my final season trip to Twin Lakes /Copper Harbor MI last weekend.
I was running on some bare roads to access trails and late season icy trails with little loose snow dust. I wore the brand new slides down to nothin in just 400 miles! My wifes Doo held up just fine and she had a pair of hyfax with 1000+ miles before the trip.
I dont have the time, energy or $$$$ to put on hyfax after every trip with marginal snow conditions (it wasnt even really marginal - just lacking some dust). I am skeptical about adding larger Doo or other wheels as I have heard from dealer that this puts additional stress on rails and makes them more prone to crack (makes sense).
Does anyone know - do the competitors wheels extend further below the rail on their stock machines than Yamaha wheels on Apex/Attak? Have any of you guys experienced cracking rails after installing larger wheels?

The rails won't crack using the 135mm Doo wheels if you use the Doo two hole wheel mounts. If you use the Doo 135mm wheels with the Yammi one hole mount it flexes the rail due having only one mounting spot. The Doo mounts have a mount below the original mount giving the bracket plenty of support.

Here's a few pics of my CUSTOM scrathers, these really help on hard packed and icy situation...and they work great, the only thing DON'T forget to lift them up when BACKING UP or else

do you have part number's for the mounts and wheels? I'd like to add Doo wheels in the mid section of my ATTAK.
