I was wondering if putting extra wheels on would that help with more speed hence less track slider resistence?? Would it make any difference??

It has been said that the less wheels the faster the sled .

this is a great question....to answer this, you need to KNOW the exact condtions of where racing/riding though....
If you were basing this on radaring...if it were a short ICE track of under 1000 ft or so....you would probably HURT SPEED with more wheels...sliders on clips is lease amount of friction IF KEPT LUBED AND COOL.
If youre running some LONG radars, lakes low snow, ice ect ect...to the point where sliders HEATUP...then YES,more wheels will help speeds..this is generally the category we all fall into...
But true ICE drag guys will tell you..NO WHEELS is fastest...once again, this isnt the conditions most of us run though....wheels DO TAKE some HP to spin...very little but some...
friction kills speed...just run down 2000ft of ice, then let off throttle...if your slides are NEWER,you will feel how fast you come to a stop...major heat and friction here...
if you are radaring..drill out slides like I do....also,wear them IN!....your sled will be much faster once slides are worn into there groove so to speak.

Wheels run up and down as they ride over the track area where the reinforcing bars (lugs) are and then drop into the softer inbetween area where there is no reinforcement.
This is like riding even moguls up and down instead of flat groomed trails.
Which is faster?
Leave them in for trail riding.
Have to have very good lube and/or run a short distance to remove some wheels as there is alot of pressure on the back/middle section of the rails as my slider wore alot when an inner idler let go.Had good lube and still wore.
Arctic Cat has been playing with tracks for a few years trying to make them quieter.

Id think that more idler wheels would add weight and increase rolling resistance.
Look at snocross sleds, they run as few idler wheels as they can get away with.

snowcross is a different track and different race altogether....there is ALOT of lube with the snow, and not much HI SPEEDS where sliders can heatup....this is why snowcross sleds need very few or even no idler wheels..
for MOST ALL riders of trails and lakes..MORE wheels will be best bet..and with OUR apexs,we all know slider wear is HI...
I added a FIX MID WHEEL KIT to my skid...i installed it exactly where MY APEX would wear the most...take alook at pic..
very tiny wheels, only FIX makes such a small wheel kit which can be placed here....other kits are too large to put here.
thanks FIXPowersports!

a track that spin free is free HP,if you take your sled and put it on a jack stand and you make it roll, you will see how long or short the track is free spinning when you let off the trottle.Tall suspension is not made for radar, it's made to absorb bump, thats why you have to drop your suspension to have a less aggressive angle on the front rail so adjust your limiter strap to lower your suspension to have less friction.friction cause heat in the slide and heat is killing your top speed.A set off small wheel place at the front bent off the slide will help to reduce that friction and your track will spin more freely.if you what to test the theory, before doing your radar run, park the sled for 5-10 min and put some snow on your slide to cool them down and should see a gain in top speed.Drag racer have good result here whit the small wheel and wee have a lot off 120 MPH club.Good luck!

Wheels are for riding. No wheels for racing, whether it be speed runs, or drag racing. Only exception would be grass drags of course, where you need wheels. Mike Knapp#17

Only thing adding more wheels is going to do is reduce hyfax wear..

Get the polaris wheels. they are a little bit taller and will bolt on directly. I found it reduced a lot of my track friction.

I have no issues with WEAR at the front BEND in rails...The way my sled sits, the front sliders wear to near the mark then stop, and the track rides onto first set of stock wheels...only time you need wheels at BEND is IF you run front of sled very HIGH(stock settings)...also if you run alot of transfer you will wear at the bend,i personally think the BEND wheels arent needed if sled is setup slightly lower then stock in front and strap tightened 1 hole...still good transfer but not too much...it will wear initially to line then stop..angle of attack is reduced also for top end speed
now the MID WHEEL kit is where mine nearly wore right thru....the GUYS at FIXpowerports KNOW this, and designed the only small enough wheel to put in this HIGHest WEAR location of the apex 121s....
sliders should now last many more miles..cause everywhere else mine wore to near line then stopped when wheels tookover..just that one spot at mid point where they would wear out,but now with midwheel kit....no more worries..

I no the wear at the bent are not a problem on those sled,i was only thinking off track rolling resistance to gain top end.I don't personally use those wheel,my limiter strap is tightened 1 hole for trail ridding and tightened 2 hole for radar.I have see drag racer here whit those wheel but maybe they grass drag too in the summer. If MIKE said that there is no gain whit the the small wheel, then i spare my money for something else.
