Mountaintech 38" +3" A Arms Test Report

Always interested in new products. I've been chipping at the upgrades over the years, and now with the addition of boost, I'm quite a happy rider. The last thing on the bucket list has been a front end, but for cost purposes I've been looking for one that doesn't need to upgrade the stock coilover shocks - so this product is certainly looking good in that regard.

How would you compare the strength of these A-arms compared to the competitors? and to Stock?
Is the upper attachment of the shock a possible weak point?

M

Mateo, glad you like the boost! Changing the front end will be a huge step as far as handling off trail is concerned. My arms are slightly lighter than OEM but weight savings was not one of my top priorities. Strength and durability was. Chromoly weights the same as mild steel. The weight savings comes through providing a thinner wall tubing. It has been my experience that mild steel tubing is more durable and reliable when it comes to A arm construction. Mild steel will bend much further before it fails. Chromoly, being more brittle, will bend and then crack and fail catastrophically. As far as the upper shock mount is concerned, no worries there. It is solid and strong. Where are you located in BC?

Thanks for the replies.
I wouldn't say I'm disgusted with the handling- it certainly was a steep learning curve tho.

Strength for me is key, so I'm glad we share the same philosophy.

I'm in Vancouver. With trips to revy and golden on occasion.

Gotcha. I spent 18 years in Pemberton. The Ice Cap was my backyard. That's where I learned that durability and reliability were so important.

After a few thousand kms I finally had to drive the sled on the trailer for the last time of the season. This was my last weekend up the lake to camp and I guess that's it for me. We still have lots of ice, but next weekend I am out of town so it is a no go. The a-arms took a beating this year with no issues. No ball joints to change and fun factor was increased considerably! Thanks Mountaintech!!
