Mounting Simmons on Nytro. Missing parts? With pics.

Few pics of carbides and mounts.

I put a straight edge on the carbide. It was actually worse, I got pissed and bent the back half of the carbide a bit and fit it on the ski. Still has a big arch.

Talked to Scott and he said the carbide is correct and the arch is ok. Every time I have talked to him, I get the feeling he doesn't like putting his carbides on Simmons skis. I have pretty much given up on his carbides for these skis, guess I'll just eat the cost.

zeke...
you actually could use those mounts...Ive done it before...get aluminum tubing that fits the o.d. of the sleeve in your picture and cut to evenly space the spindle between the mounting shoe...an alternative would be washers stacked up on both sides if you can find them to fit over spindle bolt sleeve.....then take a piece of alum 3/4 cut it to fit between the shoe drill two holes for the shoe bolts...
do the same with another piece for the rear...(keeps the rubber from sliding out...doesnt have to be a perfect fit...)

if you dont want the carbides, shoot me a p.m. on a deal I might be interested..

Ya, I got a call into Simmons about the mounts. If all else fails ( I am a very impatient person), I may just order them from Rich.

As for the carbides, I am not done screwing with them, I think if I do some small grinding on his welds, I can get it to sit in the groove better.

You've got all you need to mount the Simmons Skis - except the carbides. Did you not buy the carbides through Simmons?

arteeex are your rubbers (non propholactic) in straight or backwards? what other details of your suspension setup with the simmons please...

Straight or backwards...Not really opposites to choose from here.

The slotted side of the rubber is towards the front of the ski. This is the same way I ran them on the stock skis. I've just move the bolt into the front hole and don't have any trial time at this setting. I also cut a little notch in the rubber for the nuts you see in the photo. The weekend before last I ran 335 miles in the UP with the bolt in the rear position and that worked okay, but I'm looking for a little more bite on initial turn.

Over the summer I had my Floats rebuilt and upgraded to 2's. I'm running these at 85 psi - up 10 psi from where I ran the standard floats.

I pulled the front strap up an additional hole (now 3 up from stock) because these skis are lower profile than the stockers. The center spring is just snug enough to keep it from rattling. I prefer most of the load on three points - the rear of the skid and skis.

I really liked the Simmons knock-offs that were on my 05 REV and I hope I can dial these in to be as effective. They seem pretty close now. They add about 5-inches to the stance too. One thing they do way, way better than the stock skis is ride higher in loose snow.

Almost zero toe-out, maybe 1/4" total between tip and tail, just enough so I could tell there was a difference. Darting of the stock skis never bothered me at all, but I can tell these do settle the front end.

Im thinking the front hole will have less bite..
I ran shaper bars on my last pair (attak) and they bit well!

Perhaps you're right. I don't expect big changes as it's only about a 1/2" difference between holes, but the engineer in me thinks loading the center of the runner will help.

The other part will be training myself to run them differently than the stockers.

Ya, I talked to Hope at Simmons. She said I have the correct mounts. The V3 was put out in 09 for the XTX Nytro, no idea why its different but, thats what she told me.

As for the carbides, no, I got them from Scott Bergstrom. I have been very happy with him till now. No way I am putting them on the Simmons. Before I "manhandled" them, with a straight edge, there was a good 1/2" arc if I put the straight edge on the tips. Now there is about 1/4". My plan is to work them a bit more and smooth out his welds so they fit better into the reliefs in the Simmons ski. The welds were hitting the ski and stopping it from seating correctly.

Thanks a ton guys for all the input!

On a side not, I got an order in for Slydogs ( race ones ). My plan is to see how I like both these skis and E-bay the other with carbides. I will probably post them on here incase anybody here wants them, at a reduced rate of course. ;)

if you get the slydogs DONT get the race model....get the powderhounds! they will help with the weight of this machine in flotation etc.

one footnote...
the current v2 (called the v3 when it includes the brackets and has three mount holes) has a different mount height than the orig v2 which Im fairly positive changes ski pressure!

Don't need the floatation. I ride 90% on trails. Only reason I got the race over the trail version is, the race ones are thicker as I have been told. Same ski, just stronger.

race is narrower than powder...and its more than flotation...ask some who have used them on a nytro...

good

glad to hear that u got things squared away. i spoke with hope at simmons today about mine too. My mounts are v2,s but have the 3rd hole drilled. she said they simply had a ton of v2 so they updated them to v3 specs to clear em out. NOTE: i have the small angle irons to hold the rubber in.
hope says rear position on these. think i will try it, as my stockers were hard to turn and caused fatigue. thinking my dealer has this sled dialed in a lil differently. plus i have the oft relocator so im a bit farther forward.

My dealer had my sled set-up majorly screwy. As I recall, they had 85PSI in my floats. Torsion on hard and center shock way too tight.

As for the mounts, I wonder if you could cut out the front angled part then not have to shim the rubber?
