I've tried many of the changes discussed on this website but have not been able to get a rear suspension setup on my 03 mountain that I am happy with! I have to ride 40 miles on trails to get to the hills and open country. Most of these trails are not groomed. The ride on my 2000 Venture is light years ahead and my 95 Bearcat 550 is close! I've tried every combination of spring settings but the ride is harsh. I think the coupling is the problem. Has anyone noticed an improvement in ride for rough trails with the MPI Transfer Kit?? :?: I'm also thinking of changing the rear shock and spring to a model that have adjustable valving. Any suggestions?
Wow, this seems to be the theme this morning. Here's what I have and it's a kick to ride now. Bumps are wheelie launching pads now!
I weigh 165 lbs. probably 180 with gear.
I have my front suspension springs at the softest setting (9.90"). It helps with the body roll believe it or not.
I have the full rate adjustment on soft.
Front rear suspension spring at 1 click above the softest setting. I'd go two clicks if you're over 200 lbs. with gear.
Rear suspension spring at the softest setting.
My limiter straps have (I'd have to measure to be sure) 3/4-7/8" of bolt showing below the black metal bracket they go through.
My MPI transfer kit is set at what I'd call a "semi" aggressive setting. I can't even imagine how much it would transfer if I put the bolt in the upper hole in the rear suspension.
The MPI kit won't help you on the trail that much but it is fun! Like Powder Blue said, you can wheelie off the bumps and the sled feels lighter. The sled likes to push around turns because you are taking weight off the front end.
