MPI Turbo From Yamaha????

They Nytro does not have a knock sensor. The only sleds that have knock detection are the 2011-2015 Apex models and I believe the Phazer models.

I purchased my sled and Turbo kit last week and my dealer got confirmation from Yamaha that turbo will be in by January 19
Really where are you located? We are in Maine and my dealers rep told him feb3?

We have the 5 year warranty with the MPI turbo., and got the special price turbo. Matter of fact just got the Y.E.S. plan documents in the mail and it expires in 2019 with a MPI turbo. Why are you saying "wave their warranty" why would someone do that?
This is what I heard and I am also trying to confirm this I am going to call the dealer and find out I thought maybe some of the guys here would have heard something and save me a call.

A motor with a knock sensor still takes time to retard the timing,it doesn't blow up instantly

Thats what I am saying - At WOT when knock is possible I am not looking at my gauges. The ECU will take care of retarding the timing. A light blinking will not do you any favors accept let you know it was happening.

A light does nothing by the time you would see it your picking up parts on the trail. The Yamaha ECU makes changes to counter it.

Yes but in all fairness you had early warning signs, dropping cylinder etc. Not picking on you but I would have stopped and towed it back the first time it dropped a cylinder, as something out of the ordinary was happening to only drop one. Not trying to bash you just pointing out to those that are getting scared of a turbo that yours appears to me to be a one off failure that was not the fully tested Yamaha approved system from MPI.

:dead: I am not trying to scare anyone off, just letting them know that there are things that can happen and that this is not just plug and play with never a concern.

I know we have been all over this in the past.... but it happened right in front of a Yamaha dealership. I talked to them at the time and they raised no flags. I called both Matt at MPI and Hauck the installer and all said probably a fouled plug because it was running so rich at 8 mpg. It cleard up and ran fine for another 150 miles till it did it again.

My spring order XTX LE is at dealer now, turbo installed, picking it up on Tues!!! LET IT SNOW!!!

And, FYI, Yamaha is letting you keep your three year warranty w the turbo and you can buy the extra two if you like to make it 5..... that from my dealer as we were doing paperwork on Thurs.

Onlyblue, Just curious but are you keeping the fixed 6pounds boot that comes with your SPS turbo kit or are you adding the electric boost controller from MPI? The XTX LE's got were ordered with turbos come with fixed. I liked the idea of electric controller rather then fixed. I have one ordered from MPI

That is true except for the XTX LE, Yamaha has that turbo kit the same class as the MTXs.(fixed)

This is what my dealer said, you might want to check into it, I had to order it. The Mtn kits are cheaper but once you add the boost controller your at the same price as the non mtn kits so it was no big deal to me. We ran into this because we have one of each.

Just pulled the viper off the lake tore it down to find out why it was running on two cylinders. Compression leak down test right cylinder leaking Into case, middle cylinder leaking Into case. 500 miles. Yay.
