I posted this in the mountain section cause I thought it might be more appropriate there but thought somebody might see it here and know whats up. I purchased MPI's 42 tooth bottom reverse gear but when installing it noticed it hits the reverse take off gear. There is no way I can see that these two gears can pass without touching. Has anybody ever actually run this gear? If you blow up the pic you can see the problem. This is my first reverse, I'm assuming I've got it together correctly. Any ideas?

Though you're likely to find more with reverse in here than in mountain, I doubt that you'll find anyone whose gone all the way to 42. I ordered one myself last week, but it hasn't arrived yet. I would really like to hear how this turns out for you before I start ripping mine apart. Probably best to give MPI a ring and see what they have to say.

42 gear
i have installed them before and in order the get it to work you have to cut down the idler gear a little to get it to clear. and ive seen them out there runing this way four about 4000 miles no problem.

What's the best way to cut down the idler gear?

The *BEST* way would definitely be to spin it on a lathe. The way I'm going to do MINE is spin it on a DRILL.
