Riva Yamaha now has a supercharger out for the MR-1 motor. They mounted the drive belt on a pully on the driveline coupler after the reduction gear. This looks like a neat and clean setup but in RX-1 application there would probably have to be hood modifications given there basic design. They are claiming a 45 hp gain on a 160 hp MR-1 HO motor. Yamaha better step up to the plate with a high hp jet ski or they are going to lose market share dramatically. This kit cost $6,500 plus the $9,500 for the ski and only makes 205 hp. You can buy a 215 hp Sea Doo for $10,500 right off the showroom floor.

200 HP in a snowmobile only wets the appetite!! LaLaLa :-o ;)!

If a PWC can go faster than my boat, then its way too fast. There is nowhere NEAR the amount of control available to them to handle safely at that kind of speed. Hit a ripple and launch 20 feet UP. I can hit 70 on the giggle gauge with my boat, but rarely go over 55. I have two PWC's, they both top out at 35. I wouldn't want to wipe out going any faster.

On snow its different. You have a suspension to suck up the bumps, and you have POSITIVE control and BREAKING. None of that crap where it WON'T STEER unless you HAMMER IT.

Jet skiers have terrible Boating manners

Careful JT, that is a pretty broad statement...sort of like someone stating that all snowmobile riders have terrible trail manners. I do agree there are ones out there who think they own the water and you better yield to them or give them the right-a-way. I have two Jet Skis and the number one reason I have them is because it is too damn long to wait a full year to ride snowmobiles. I love to snowmobile and waiting till next winter got to me soo bad that I had do something to crave that need. IMO, Jet Skies did just that. But like anything else, rules and guidelines have to be followed. We usually average a couple of accidents on our lake each year and it is usually someone out of town who is not familiar with the lake or someone who never had much saddle time on one (do you see the similarities in snowmobiling). Thankgoodness the states are coming out with laws where jet skiers have to take a course before they can ride. Maybe this will help in bringing back a good image for jet skiers. I will say this, I have seen my share of boat drivers who don't know the proper water navigation rules but I realize they are only a few and not the norm.

The only bad thing about getting these Jet Skies is that I now find myself wanting to tweak them much like I do with my sleds. Of course, now owning a RX-1, my lil 900s just don't quite cut it. I thought about trading up to a four stroke but for what I have in the two and what they would probably pull in on a trade-in, I decided to keep them. Oh yeah, it might also have something to do with my wife wanting to get a new home first. :o|

Jason (I don't know why I called you Justin in that post on AMSNOW last week),

I have to respectfully disagree with your comment that skiers have bad boat manners and have no right to 65 mph. You are generalizing and prejudging those who have the same right to the water as anyone does. As with snowmobiling, boating, and jet skiing 10% of riders ruin it for the other 90%. One could say sleds have no right to go over 80 mph or boats have no right to have open exhaust through the transom so you can hear them coming 2 miles away. (I know you particpate in both of those sports) I, myself, particpate in all three and when I am out on the Lake I see just as many stupid boat drivers as I do jet skiers. You frequently see boats cutting in front of one another, not observing the rules of road in meeting situations, and are just too damn loud (I live on the lake). I also see skis doing the same thing. The biggest gripe I have is those that horse around too close to shore. But ironically, you see boats pulling skiers too close to shore to find the smooth water due to the hills.

Regardless what type of vehicle you add horsepower to, there is a chance of getting killed. What makes the difference if its on water or snow, dead is dead. But going fast is fun!

Not going to get on a soap box but Jet skis have there place and it's not on the big lakes.

Plus kids shouldn't be ridding these things!!!

You guys that aren't happy with 125 on a snowmobile, shouldn't talk about 65 being fast on a ski. At least you can see everything around you on the water. I hear you guys bragging about how fast you can go in the twisties. I think that's stupid, on a public trail where you don't have a clue what's around the corner, or over the hill. How does the death rate of skis compare to snowmobiles? I don't know anybody personally that has been killed on a ski.

Divide and conquer thats how they get the recreational people. Pit boater against sledder against 4 wheeler. Man with everone thats against us the last thing we need is to go at each others throats. IMHO

:ORC

Jason, If I had a PWC, I would want it to have as much power as we try to get out of a sled......I like speed and I have a boat that does only 45 mph and at 1st that felt fast for me but now I want power....lol. All your comments are the same views I am sure non-snowmobilers think about us.....to the TEE

Tom Come over this summer and go out on the big lake with Curt on his boat. You'll see people out there that have zero business being on these things.
