Just need some food for thought about taking the MTX out for Grass or asphalt. What are my limitations as to tracks and what not. I've already cut the 2.25 down to about 1.5-1.75(never actually meassured it). Is there an option for asphalt without changing skids?

I'm still wet behind the ears when it comes to dragging so I would guess grass would be a better place to start.

If I'm a little to short on info here, I'll try and 'splain it better next time.

I prefer asphalt because I can race 3 days per week if I want. If you are near any drag strips like I am, it is nice because I can race whenever I want without too much travel. In my area, Grass drags are only once or twice per year.

You can use the stock skid. You just have to pull the sliders off and install an asphalt track. You may eventually need to add a couple of extra wheels. You then need to take the thermostat out, add some quick disconnects to the cooling system, and build a cool down cart. Install some asphalt skiis and you are ready to go.

If you can swing it, I'd buy an asphalt skid and 10.5" track. Check amsnow.com racing forums classifieds. Many people are selling stuff on there. Track, skids, skiis etc.

I just bought a new skid and track from guys on there.

If you're starting with a MTX, you can't use the stock skid. No asphalt tracks that long. 136, 128, or 121. Everything else these guys posted sounds about right.

Will i be allowed to use the stock skid in the grass? With the cut down track? Would I be wasting my time without studs?

thanks for all the help so far. More just considering the easiest/cheapest way to get more use out of my toy. :)

for 'sanctioned' racing you should look at getting a rule book. Different circuits handle that different ways. Grass racing here definately requires studs. Where you are there may be a 'mountain sled' class that doesn't allow them. Maybe find someone who does it now and go along before you commit to it.

I think asphalt is the easiest way to get started. Run every weekend if you want and learn how your clutching/gearing/suspension setups work. It's also much cleaner without the dust getting in everything. Racing isn't cheap and winning isn't easy.

I think some of the guys over looked your post here.
The mtx is a 153" track. They do not make an asphalt track that big.
For grass it is illegal to cut down your lugs.
Your only option in stock class is to run the unstudded class if your local circuit has one.
For asphalt you would need a different skid because of the 153.
