Definitely the norm with all RX1's there are some changes you can make to eliminate some of it but every one i've seen does it at idle. I would'nt be concerned one bit 8500 on my 03 and it has always done it.

Just bring up your IDLE to 1700-1900rpm and the noise will vanish, you might want to check if your CARBS are in SYNC, it also makes a BIG difference...

My 03 RX-1 makes the same noise. Dealer said it was normal for that model.

Between the clutch and the gear reduction system, it's normal noise. I also raised my idle to 1800 and the noise is barely noticeable. Also, raising the idle made starting a lot easier. It was at 1200 from the factory and I always had to give it just a little gas while cranking, now I just turn the key.
I know the clutch isn't worn, the sled only has 750 original miles on it. Man I hope it snows this year.

my 03 did it until i put the heel clickers and different rollers in. But like the other guys said, turning up the idle helps.
