Hi, guys, been surfing this forum for a while now, after beeing hokked on Yamaha since i tested a 05 Turbo RX last winter.
I've only ridden Doo my whole riding career, except my dads sleds, that's been Yamaha all thru the years. So I'm kind of new to RX.
The thing is, to get to the point... I've decided to go check out a 03 RX Mountain with an McXpress turbo intalled. And I was wondeing what i need to look after when I'm checking it out. What parts of the sled can hold the power the least? And what other mods should have been done to this sled except the turbo? I'm very new to 4 strokes, so any help and input wil be appreciated.

These sleds are bullit proof even with a turbo as long as good gas is used . I would do a leakdown test on the cylinders and a compression test . If it hasn't had any detonation under boost it's probably fine .The engine condition would be my focus. Shocks, bearings,track , etc. are all easy fixes if needed compared to the engine . I've never had any thing break on either of my turbo sleds , so if there is a weak spot to look out for I don't know about it .

It's real cool that these sleds can take that much power... that's one of the things actually making me want one... If you get 240 HP in a 2 stroke, you have to spend as much time in the garage as you do on those mountains.
The only consern is the weight though... What's the first thing one should do to drop weight (except doing situps
)

Do a search for weight savings. There have been hundreds of posts on the subject. One guy built a air box out of TUPPERWARE, saved like a pound.

Best places to save weight (if the first owner hasn't done it) are;
Aftermarket skid - 30+ lbs
Dry Cell battery - 7-11 lbs (depends on what you want)
A-arms - about 6.5 lbs
Billet rear drop brackets- 4 lbs
Hood - 10- 15 lbs ( or so I have heard)
remove tool box/beverage holder - 3 lbs
remove antiswaybar (personal preferance) - 2 lbs
MPI rear transfer enhancement kit (if a new skid is too much $) - 5lbs
MPI tunnel extension - 4.3 lbs
Aftermarket exhaust (if it was a front mount turbo or SC) - 11- 20+ lbs (depending on style)
Lightweight seat - 6-7 lbs
Thats about all I can think of for light weight directions

I'm going to check it out over the weekend, and I don't think the first owner has done much more than installed the turbo and had fun with it...
But that was a great list of savings... Anybody got a REAL 'wet' (or dry) weight on a stock 03 mountain?

You do want to look at the jack shaft....has he done the update? I would assume he did the float bowls and the rear heat exchanger. The other consideration is the skid. I would also assume that with that much power he might have done some stuff to the skid....if not, keep in mind that Yamaha changed to a new skid in 05' which climbs on top of the snow better. The 03' skid digs deep holes and it seems like the more gas you give it the quicker it digs a hole. It was frustrating. Good luck.

I know i'm a little late on this, but make sure it has a rear heat exchanger. These things run a little on the hot side, if you don't keep good powder in the track area.
