I have a Renegade, which is the second Ski-Doo since a string of Yamahas. I like the chassis, but hate the motor problems. I got all my friends riding Yamahas now, but am reluctant to get the Attak. They do not seem to be as good in the deep as I would have hoped. I planned on riding the Renegade one more year, then see what shakes loose. Now I am thinking of getting a Phazer and adding a turbo and a 136" track. I would not at all be happy with the 80 hp or the 121". I wonder if the turboed version would be bullet proof for long Canada trips and if the sled would be comfortable enough for touring. Ditch banging around northern lower MI will be where most of my riding will happen. I do a few trips to Canada for off-trail powder riding, as well as a few high mileage trips. It is the high mileage trips that I am concerned about. Maybe I should just get the Attak. Any opinions??
hey I am I have 06 Ski-Doo Renegade 800 X and I just purchased a Phazer MTN Lite as a second sled. I am going out to ride the Big Horns in less then two weeks and I am taking both sleds with. Needless to say when I return I can give you a great side by side comparison.
I however have the opposite situation as you. I am Ski-Doo die hard that got tempted over to Yammi's 4-Stroke darkside.
Needless to say I'm going to keep both sleds and i'm pretty sure that they'll both be rockin sleds and I'll keep you informed on the side by side if you'd like.[/quote]

I do not believe that a turbo Phazer will be a good sled for touring rides. A turbo will change the turn the key and go nature of the sled into one that likes to be tinkered with. For touring the Attack is the better choice. For ditchbanging a stock Phazer would be fun. Turbos are generally used for hillclimbing or drag racing.
If I were you, I'd wait to see if Yamaha offers anything more to your liking in '08.

Gypsy, the MP Phazer is pretty cool. I wonder why in the hell they didn't put the 16" wide under the Mtn Lite?

Its obvious you havent rode with very many turbos in your time have ya? I know many people have well over 5,000 miles and many more on turbo'ed sleds. They are a turn key, ride all day, never lift the hood type of sled. Just go look around in the turbo/supercharged section and see how many miles those guys have, i bet you will be surprised by what you find.

Well a turbo sled may not be as bad a rockrider made it sound, I dont buy into the whole "turbo improves engine longevity" theory. I know thats not what your saying but what Im saying is...
Whether 99% as reliable as a non turbo or 50% as reliable, I still believe a turbo'd sled will require more upkeep then its naturally aspirated counterpart, there is simply less HP, less torque and less stress, not that it can't be tuned right.
I would agree if reliability was a #1 concern then don't modify a warrantied design.

My turbo is turn key and very reliable. 6500kms on her now and even the belts last up to 2500kms. Don't even open the hood that often! All that and 280hp. Nuf said.

I say wait another year. By the way it sounds, Yamaha will be releasing a higher horsepower sled in the Phazer chassis...I hope.
That is unless you do not feel your Doo will be reliable enough for your kind of riding.

The only way I'd ever consider purchasing a sled with a turbo is if it came that way from the factory.
I saw that front bumper on the Candian site. Very nice and practical. The 16" on their Phazer makes me wonder what the exact difference is between the work Phazer and the sport Phazer besides the wider tunnel? Different front bulkhead? Seems like it would be cost prohibitive to produce two different bulkheads for the Phazer although that is how it appears.
