Well its time to change the oil in my FX (577 miles)..so i order a K&N oil filter from Excell and go to Advance Autos to get some Mobil One 0W40. I get the side covers off , take the skid plate off and SCREW THAT!!! This machine was NOT meant to be worked on by some slob in his cold, dark garage. I drained the oil, filled it with my Mobile One and put the Sucker back together. I'll let the dealer deal with the filter in a few hundred more miles. The original filter should be OK for a little while don't you think?

Interesting, I'll have to figure this out soon...assuming we get some snow! At lease I have a heated shop to tinker in. But...I will be doing 2 - Phazers, a Vector, and a couple Rx1's.

The Rx1's weren't too bad, I hope the vector is not too bad as well. The Phazers looks to be real projects.

When did Mobil 1 come up with 0W40??? I was working on a case of Amsoil. If the Mobil 1 is available, I'll go for that.

You should really change the filter when you do the break-in oilchange. You have all of the microscopic metal particles from when the surfaces inside the engine wore themselves smooth and you want to get all of those particles out of the engine.

Its easier than you think to change the oil, 1st I took the sides off and air box lid, then the seat and the plastic around the gas cap and the headlite. next was the bottom plate under the motor and the right lower plastic under the gear box then I took the 3 screws out of the air box that screw the box to the throttle body ,1 is in the air box and the other 2 are under grommets on top of the box and there you go the filter is sittin there on the right

Yeah, I'd hate to see it if it were inaccessible! :o|

i had warranty work that needed to be done. so i told dealer to change it. get home put it back in its climate controlled shop, next morning oil all over floor. return to dealer looks at it and says oil is in engine bay and dripping so i said you dont clean that and they say they did. it drips out still. sick of paying for hack work. ihave another trip planned today to dealer didnt have parts last time i wasted my gas well see i bitched last time manager called before i even got home lo and behold yamaha sent me a survey to fill out not a good day to praise yamaha

Excell Motorsports

If you are sick of the dealer and their "hack" work why don't you consider going to Excell Motorsports. I have had great service from Aaron for the last 10+ years. I have to drive 1.5 hours to get there.....you are close!
