yester riding around out in the wood, put the sled in revers without a problem then went to put it back in drive and the d light would just blink, we rocked it and rolled it back and forth and nothing, so we had to tow it home. does anyone have any suggestions on what to look for? thanks

Is it actually in neutral or does the sled just "think" its in neutral?

no its stuck in neutral, the drive light blinks and if you give it gas it will not let the motor rev over like 3 grand pushing the botton does nothing i cant get it back in drive or revers, turning the engine off does nothing either.

Lift the back of the sled up and take the belt off. Turn the secondary clutch and see if it turns the track.
If it does I would look at the TPS or the drive position switch.
If it does not turn the track you will be looking at taking the drive system apart of check for damage imo.

My brother's did that and it turned out to be the electrics motor that switches the gears was not working right. His is 2008 and they said there was an updated part number.

I had the same problem happen to me with my 07 GT.
The only difference is that I was doing 120km/h down a lake when the shift dog inside the transmission went for a dump.
Long story short, the servo motor that controls the switching of forward and reverse gears died. I was also told that it is a common failure amongst 07-08 models. So I am assuming then that a bandaid or some form of revision has been done for the 09 and up.
Getting to this shaft and servo motor requires removal of the engine as it is located underneath. The labour killed me but I only had 1200 kms on the sled at the time and this was 2 years ago.
The dealer told me that after awhile the servo motor losses its staying power-pardon the pun and can no longer hold the gear in drive, they also said that as a sign of it failing is having an increasingly difficult time shifting to reverse. Some rocking is normal but when you have to yank on it for minutes on end then that ain't so normal.

Forgot to mention, the dealer also said that RPM is limited when this failure happens to protect the engine from further damage and probably from shredding all the gearing inside this servo shaft housing.

You don't have to remove the engine just the gas tank. I had my gear motor off a few weeks ago.

For removing the shift motor, just remove the coolant tank and you can access it from there. Did it a couple of times on the Phazer.

i finally got the new part the old one did not work, i tested this before i put it on and it works both way but when i put it on its in drive, pick in revers and that works, but will not go back into drive, i took it out and back in a couple times and this happens everytime, i even had the switch off the gear box while running the sled and it just wont go back into drive after. does anyone have anyideas to try?

Just a stupid thought and I'm not saying you didn't, but did you check the gearbox fuse? On a side note did you happen to notice how much turning play you had in either the old or the new gearbox on the secondary side ? I'm having an issue with mine and it seems to have a lot of looseness, I can turn the secondary about 1 1/4 inch of freeplay measured at the top (not in and out movement) Second where did you get your gearbox and how much was it??

i didnt check the fuse, ik there are 2 sensors one on each side of the gear box, could one of those not work causeing it to not shift back to drive. i didnt get a whole gear box only the switch on the top witch i got for 250ish from my yamaha dealer, are you talking about how far you need to trun the secondary to get the gearbox to lock into drive or revers, or how much play it has when it is in drive?
