Well guys I took alot of flack jumping off an 03 RX1 on to an 04 REV 800HO-X but I needed to try it out for myself. I put 5000 miles on my 2003 RX1 and just felt I needed a change until something really great came out from Yamaha. For me "really great" was a new suspension AND EFI. In 2005 I got half....a new suspension but the EFI was still a future.....this year I got both!

Here is my season......(quick recap)

So far this winter I have about 3500 miles on 2 REV's...yes 2. Why, because I blew my 2004 up 2 weeks ago and we had a BIG TRIP planned last week (1500 miles). So I did what any desperate sledder would do.....I traded the blown up 04REV PLUS $1500 for a 2005 REV 800HO to get me through the season and get me home that weekend. The REV definatley takes a while to get used to it. I was never REALLY comfortable on the 2004 but the 2005 is a MUCH better ride and honestly.....it handles like a slot car! You can jump anything and they always land perfect and the long track is sweet in the deep snow.

Now the bad.....The things I miss the most about a 4-stroke are obvious....RELIABILITY, GAS MILEAGE and OIL USAGE These 3 things alone are putting me back on a 4-stroke next year. I did some math and figured I would have saved enough money every day on a 4-stroke to pay for my hotel room at night PLUS half of my dinner. I NEVER pinned my sled on the streches without wondering if the engine would blow....that feeling sucks :? . You can never truly ENJOY the ride because you are always wondering if you will make it through the day. My ENTIRE group of buddies are all seriously thinking 4-stroke for next year. We ride on average about 300 miles per 8 hour day at pretty good speeds. 2 strokes are just not made for that. We did just under 1500 miles and I used 17 LITRES of OIL. :o| on an 05 PowerTek that is supposed to be easy on OIL.

I was fortunate enough to have been invited to the 2006 ONTARIO DEMO ride tommorow and I am eagerly awaiting to ride the 06's. It's no longer a matter of 2 or 4 stroke....it's a matter of which 4-stroke for me APEX GT or ATTAK. I learned a valuable lesson this winter while being towed home by my buddy.....NEVER UNDERESTIMATE RELIABILITY...who cares if your sled tops out at 110 and your buddy on the 2 stroke MACH Z pulls 118....because it doesn't matter....RIDING WITHOUT WORRYING is the best feeling in the world and I ONLY EVER HAD THAT FEELING ON MY RX1! Being towed home on PERFECT TRAILS sucks :o|

So tommorow.....I will be evaluating the 06's from a different perspective than most others....I am probably the ONLY TY'er invited to ride the 06's who doesn't actually currently own an RX1 or a 4-stroke. BUT...I can give some very good insight on why I won't be back on a 2-stroke next year......Any questions don't hesitate to ask. Feel free to PM me, email me or post a reply and I can give you some honest feedback. I have alot of GOOD things to say about the REV as well but the 3 things I just mentioned are things the REV (or any 2-stroke) just doesn't have.

Cheers guys....SIMICH

PS. Ski-Doos 2-stroke SDI technology is very good on gas but remember this argument.....the SDI requires synthetic (SD reccomends theirs) which is VERY PRICEY. The price of the OIL offsets any gains in MPG and the MPG's on a an SDI are extremely variable (12MPG - 18MPG) depending on riding conditions.

Nice post John. We had one guy on the TY ride in Manitoba that was on REV 800. He blew his water cooler and took out the engine too. He was towed back home on perfect trails.

You are right, reliability is the name of the game for those that put on miles.

When you ride 300 miles a day you don't spend alott of time worrying about 4-6 mph on the top end ;)! Smooth, reliable, clean power is what the future will be all about ;)!

Did you ever feel like the front end is really sloppy on your skidoos?

I rode both a 05 REV and a GTX and i thought the skis turned slower than the handle bars or that it felt loose in the front.. compared to my warrior

Yea mine had a lot of push, I wasn't comfortable with the handling. The precision skis worked better on my RX1. The ride was great but my knees and shins were sore all the time.

My 2004 800HO-X didn't handle worth SH&T but the 2005 800HO Renegade is so good in the twisties that not one of my buddy's can even come close to keeping up.

I hate to admit it but it has been the best handling sled I have owned to date. That is one thing I will be watching closely tomorrow on the ride.

But if the snow is loose on the trail those skis do have a bit of push but nothing you can't overcome.

ok well I am a Mach z owner just love the sled $11600 Power yea it has it Ride yep it is there handels like it is on rails ok but this is why I am here now looking blue This thing has alot of problems to be expected for the first year of anything nothing is being addressed for me anyways doos fix for plug problem was pluging decomps but had none to sell us so I welded my decomps because they had no parts. belts 3@$ 138.00( if you could find one) in 1200 miles slides 3 sets (but you had to use the ones off a older model because they had no replacments) 1200 miles heard they where having fuel pump problems so I bought a jerrycan skidoo price 80 dollors have rode SD all my life butt I am looking for good service and a good machine am I in the right spot?

reliablity is why sold my turbo and put the 03 back to stock. Stopping at every stop sign and lifting the hood to see if it was on fire sucked.

4stroke!

There is nothing better then ripping across the lake wide open and looking for more rpm's!!! I cannot say any other manufactor of sleds has as little engine proplems as Yamaha..esp the 4strokes!!
06' is Yamaha's year to shine,watch out!
BTW :4STroke: & :rocks:

Hey APE....to be honest...neither did I, but a great deal on a Doo and the need to wait to see what 06 brought me made me hold off on the 05's.

Glad I did....! ;)!

Trailer works great...sealed up the front bottom of the llid a bit and all is well. Lot's of buudies want it but I'm keepin it for a while.
