I'm planning a trip to Island Park, ID. I'm bringing my '06 Attak (136").
We plan on doing a lot of sight-seeing (never been to this area) so probably quite a bit of trail riding but also some back-country but nothing to extreme. Here are my questions...
Should I drop a gear or isn't it worth it for the limited amount of hillclimbing I would be doing?
What clutching changes do you recommend?
I found a 1-3/4" track that I can pick-up for about $250...Would it be worth it to change out the 1-1/4" ripsaw?
Finally, any suggestions for "must-see" areas of Island Park, West Yellowstone?

I can't say for Island Park area, but on the other side of the mountains, in Wyoming continental divide area, I ran ran the same gears (stock), took the rivets out of the clutch weights, and added 10 degree twist to the secondary. It worked VERY well for me.

Also, forgot to add. Look in the last 3 issues of Snowest Magazine. There is a very nice article of the Island Park/West Yellowstone area.

Everything is pretty preliminary right now but we are planning on staying at The Pines on Phillips Road. Eight of us plan on going for 5 days (2 driving, 3 riding). We're deciding between the middle of January and March 1st. I have some friends that have been to Island Park many times and said it's great. I also read that 3 part article in SnoWest and that pretty much clinched it for me. Thanks for the info! Anyone else have any advice????

I took my warrior out west a couple times and it also had the 136" 1.25" ripsaw. I didnt make any changes other then cranking the secondary twist to max. This worked fine for me. The key is with that track is to keep your track speed up. For the kind of trip you have planed you will be fine. If you want to do the clutching just go by yamahas chart. Eric

Personally, I would put an adjustable shockwave helix on. http://www.shockwaveperformance.com/
At least you could adjust your helix to the type of snow condition you'll have for that day.

Snows getting good up there found 3ft on our ride tonight. Just got to know where to find it. Oh yeah it was dumping when we left. Saturday is looking good for a ride.

put a shut off valve on the coolant line to carbs I had trouble with carbs getting to hot & kill , then would have to blow in the tank to restart , also raise your handlebars so you can stand up , & a big second to the shovel you will need it & start lifting the back of the sled, ten reps at a time every day , this will help big time when you get stuck, I would start this asap

Actually you should do 10 reps with the front of the sled as that's about how heavy the rear is full of snow.. :exc:
