I just picked up a complete set from a guy who could not get them dialed in right. So here is my question, who has a good starting point for a stock 03 shorty with aftermarket exhaust ? I would like to know where to put the weights and get these to work. Also is there anything else I should do to the stock clutching to work with these ? like change the twist in the secondary ! change any springs ! or should I change the helix ?
I know it's alot of questions but I am new to clutching, I would have called Matt at the speedshop, but since I did not buy this set from him I don't think it is proper to ask him for a setup. If anybody else can shed a little light on this it would be greatly appreciated.

Oh yeah, do you need any special tools for changing the clutches around ?
(I told you I was new at this) :D

C'mon guy's, somebody should have a starting point for me.
oh yeah, my sled is not studded and has a 1 inch predator track in it, and I weigh about 230.

PLEASE HELP ME

The base line set up for an RX1 is this, 3/4 allen in heel, 7/16 bolt and thick washer in the middle and tip.
I feel this is not enough weight in the heel and too much in the tip so what I run is a 1/4 and 3/4 allen in the heel, a 7/16 bolt and thick washer in the middle, and a 3/8 bolt and thin washer in the tip.
Leave everything else alone untill you try it for about 250 miles and report back.
You need a sheave clamp to hold the clutch compressed while changing out the weights, you can purchase one from any of the many performance shops across the country.

Hope this helps

Ted.

Thank you so much for the reply Ted, when you say leave everything else alone are you talking about twist on secondary and changing of the helix ?
I have heard that these weights really work well with these changes, what are your thought's ?

again thak you for the reply. :D

everything that came with the kit, I have not seen it yet because the friend that I bought it from just gave it to another friend where I will be installing it tonight. He has all the tool's required to do the job and has alot more experience with clutching then I do. I understand that the kit does come with its own weights and washers and stuff, but are you saying that I might need more ? if so my buddy has extra weights.

There are 2 different base weights available. 48.? or 51.? grams. The ones you have will determine how much you add to them. Definitely use the 2 allen screws in the heel. If you get another helix, I like the Dalton 54-44 or one that finishes between 42 & 44. I also think that the silver spring is over rated. I like the pink or white which are stiffer and offer beltter backshifting and less belt slippage. If you use the silver, it needs to be set at at least 6-2. Your total weight per weight should be somewhere near 64 grams, unless you ride alot of powder. Then it should be less.

When your mother told you to leave everthing alone what did you do

You need to base line one change at a time or serious confusion sets in, probably what happened to the guy you got the weights from.

You can also try 3/4 in heel & center with 3/8 bolt and thin washer with 7/16 in tip with steel washer & thin washer. A little less in heal and center will let you carry more tip weight and help raise engagement a little and also help pull on far end. I was running stock 51/43 helix secondary silver at 80% with 170/300 motor clutch spring. But who knows might work with stock springs secondary set at 60 or 70 or 80 degrees have to try. (Later)

What is the base weight on a set of RX1 HH? I have the SRX Heavy Hitters and I got the 48 gram base weight. Good thing I don't have porting, or I would not be able to load the tip down enough to keep the rpms where they need to be.

The base rx-1 hh,s weigh approx 48.8 grams. With my super dooper magic helix mine are loaded up to about 60.6 grams.

I thought the SRX weights were the 51. grams weights. The viper and RX-1 were the 48. weights.
Turk I'll bet you are running more than 60 grams now or will be soon. How is it progressing?

Hey guy's I finally got my turbo installed with two rides in so far.Very impressed but I need some clutching help.I initially tried viper weights loaded up a bit with smaller rollers and a lighter spring cause every one said I would have a lag problem. It turns out lag doesn't seem to be a problem at all.I pin it and it goes right to the rev limiter and keeps sputtering off it till I let off ,so I have to slowly roll on the throttle and on the trail is still bounces off the rev limiter.Whats the heaviest yami weights and rivets that I can throw in this thing?should I loaed up some srx weights?

I run the 1/2 allen, 3/8 aluminum, and the 1/2 brass and 1 brass washer.
Very good acceleration and killer top end. Runs 10500. Works very, very well.
