Just added a 2007 phazer GT to my fleet. Saw on this forum somewhere that yamaha makes anti-bottoming kit for the torsion spring suspension. Any one know what the part # is??

Also, I does anyone know what options there are for a different smaller windshield that mounts to the stock mounting bracket. The smaller "cool" windshields in the Yamaha Acc. catalog require buying an additional mount bracket which makes replacing the windshield pretty expensive.

Thanks.

Not sure what the # is for the Anti Bottoming kit, but being someone that spent the $$ on one, I wish I'd just used a rubber or delrin bushing for this....

As for the windshield, I think you're looking for a low shield from the FX or the RTX.... Mounts to the stock frame, rather than the set of brackets.

COming form someone who has both a tall and a bikini sheild.. When it's cold, I throw on the tall sheild, all other times, I ride without anything on the front....

made my own kit and IMO not worth bying. if ur gonna spend the money get ur shocks revalved to a progressive valve stack. i took my bottoming keit off afterwards and havent looked back. the bottoming kit is only saves u 20% of the time that you are goin to bottom. or atleast that was my experiance. shocks can get revalved for around 45 to 50 bucks a pice. my boss does that for that price and hes a wiz with shocks.

I bought the kit for 60 bucks or whatver it was and I would've been better off just drilling into 2 hockey pucks and bolting them on. alot cheaper.

I have the Mountain Lite which has springs that that are 20% softer than the short tracks. I found that this kit, although it didn't stop the bottoming, it takes the big jolt out of it 90% of the time.

Dave,

Unfortunately, the GT skid frame shock is a non-rebuildable shock. If we want to get it updated, we'll both have to find an expensive rebuildable one.

No problem ;)!

While you're looking at the GT suspension you might want to check out these coupler blocks available from http://www.hiperf.com/ for $37.95.

X-Clicks are a direct replacement for the stock 3 position blocks. The 4 position design of the X-Clicks allows for more adjustment and the 4th side is an overload position. Machined from 6061-T6 aluminum for maximum strength.

GT, FX, RTX shocks are all rebuildible. the base phazers are not.

The 2007 Phazer GT has non-rebuildable shocks. They're steel, not aluminum, therefore they're not rebuildable. Verify with your dealer if you're unsure. As far as I know, the FX of that year is the only model that has rebuildable.

8GK-47480-A0-00 is the part number it list at $240 for a 07 gt. 8GK-47480-C0-00 is the 08. the base phazer which i know are non rebulidble are 8GC-47480-00-00 Whis list for $140. notice the K in the first part of the part number i believe it stands for KYB. they are usaly rebuilbable. also under specs on a 07 gt the shocks are listed at KYB HPG. high pressure gas have an IFP 90% of IFP shocks are rebuildble. also the phazer base is listed at "Gas Cell shock" these are non rebuilble.

ecopter i am making my conclusion from this information thats on the yamaha web site. how are u so sure they are non rebuidable? do u have a GT ur self?

I just called Port Yamaha. The verdict: If they're steel bodied (which the GT are), they're non-rebuilds. When I bought the sled, the specs indicated it on the description. The shocks are updated and better than the base Phazer model, however from the Yamaha site, it indicated they're still throw aways.

I hope you prove me wrong 'cause I'd much rather have 'em rebuilt than buy new. I trust the guy's at Port.......and it's where I bought the sled.

Jon

By the way, my '02 Vmax700ER also had the same non-rebuilds; the description of the sleds being practically identical...........as groomed trail cruisers.

I have to say, putting non-rebuildable shocks on any of the Phazers is a crime. It's just stupid to have to replace a shock because it's a throw away in this day and age. What to the old Viper shocks cost $200-$400 come on just put a simpe HPG shock in there, if someone whats top of the line so be it but considering the Yamaha isn't exactly known for theit shock valving they should at least give you the option of revalving. It costs them much less to use HPG's then it will cost us, then everybody's happy. Well I'm sure well find something to complain about. If the sled was 3-4 grand I could see, but their not exactly cheap sleds.

Not sure if you want to retain the tall windshield option, but i will gladly trade you my 08 rtx windshield for your gt one! Who am i? I am justcunn47 on ebay with 140 positive feedbacks. Ask me a question and ill answer to verify(if you are interested). If interesed let me know and we will exchange email adressed through pm's. If not, sorry to bug you!
