I was just wondering if anyone can help me with the GEMS controller boxes? It won't let me switch to a different mode. Is their a button i gotta push or hold after i have the first setting done to move on to the next? The settings in the instructions are for 5000 to 9000 ft and i am only at 1200 to 1500ft. At idle it is running lean and when u give it a little gas the A/F is good. I am running straight 110 not sure if that has anything to do with it or not? Any info would b great.

On the controller there is a mode and then + or - on either side..when the sled is warm..if you push the mode once, the green light will come on,#1..this is for your idle.push it for + or -...this will adjust your A\F...when its flashing say like 2 and 3 at the sametime,,its at two and a half and if just 3..then its three..etc.be careful..its so easy to push it twice..the idle will change instantly..if you push it twice,it will be on the midrange, and three times puts you in the WOT.now to change boost or the elivation..its either # 4 or 5..I too am new at this..so as to what you should do..call M.P..or someone else.I am not a tech..so I am telling you what I have learned..not what I know..and my manuel is in french..still working on it..lol.
PRETTY SURE YOU HAVE TO GO UP +...TO MAKE IT RICHER..thats what I did to make mine better...what is your A\F anyhow..got shim???

Thanks may A/F at idle is around 15 or 16 but when u give it just a touch of gas it drops to around 11 or 12. No shim for me. The biggest issue i am having is my box won't switch modes no matter how many times i push the mode button.

thats ok for a shim..but it is getting too high.try the end of a pencile..and dumb question...is your sled running...dont change anything...take the numbers down then change it.you should be able to adjust this problem with the gems..also..whenever you fill it..check the A\F..at first..just to be sure the gas you put in is the right octain..never know what you are buying...mine runs on 92-94...14psi..Under 5000 ft.

I never tried to adjust it when it was running because it will only idle for a second or so the die. U think i should try a 50/50 mix with 91/110?

now were in over my head.if it wont idle, then it could be something else.do you have carbs or injection.were going to need more info.did it just start doing this. You cannot adjust the thing unless its running.Im sure someone here will be able to help you..this is why I went and had it done..dont get me wrong.hats off to the guys that do it.but for me..no..I turn the key and go..lol..Im a rider..lol..Also..cant beat the tch. sapport I have.. #1 ;)!

i got it to idle now had to give it a little gas to keep it running until it got the A/F correct for idle it is at 12.5-13. I am currently working on putting some more weights in the clutch because i am getting a little better then 15 psi on the boost and mpi instructions say it should only be at 11psi but im not sure how much the elevation plays a part in that. I am only at 1200 ft so that could be why to.

What is the boost set at on the gems.If the altitude is set at 5000+..then your boost could be at 11psi when up at 5000.but when you are under that, it will run a higher boost #.Thats what I have been told..you lose boost when up high..Im no expert but those psi #s seem high for no shim.are you running meth.do you have a BOV..this can be a life saver when haveing trouble with your boost.you have to be sure what your gems is set at..If your running a MPI stage 2..I was told it could run between 11 and 16 psi.( dealer ).Was told by someone .( turbo-nut.)...No..do it all..shim,injectors etc..cause it will run at 13-14 psi and up..he was right.low 14.high 19 psi..for me the shim is a must for stage 2.or atleast for more than 8psi.if you want to run 92-94 octain.just my 2 cents

The gems box is set at 7 now on the altitude box. I can only adjust one setting on that box because when i push the mode button after i set the first setting it won't change to yellow so i can set the next setting that is suppose to be the same as the first. I am running straight 110 though it now with no bov. I was told by mpi they don't recommend that for controlling boost on s/c like they do on turbos would rather change pulleys. My charger is the stage one and the instuctions say it should max at 11 or maybe 12 but thats it. I put heavier weights in the clutch went from 2 10.3 and 1 13.2 up to 2 13.2 and one 17.2 in each dog and it didn't seem to affect the boost like they said it would. The sled it pushing oil out the breather tube and now i got oil all of the dam thing. I am sure it is because of the higher boost and no crankcase breather. MPI had be double check my pulley numbers because i guess they have new pulleys and old pulleys and the old pulleys would be giving me more boost but when they checked the numbers on them they said they were the correct ones. I am thinking about taking out one of the 13.2 rivets in each dog on the clutch and putting another 17.2 in it and see what that dose.

when you change one setting..you must weight till the unite stops flashing..it will go back to normal..if you want to change the second or third etc...you must push the mode one 2 or 3 times etc.depending where you want it to stop..I run a BOV on mine.yes there are different pullies.if you have the right ones..I dont see how you could be so high..and myself..running anything over 10psi with no shim,,I would run 110..if no shim..some guys do but it is not reconmended.untill you know what your gems boost is set at,you might be running around for nothing.I spent a good time being showen what this unite could do..and then read about it..
the touniing is the hardest part to putting these things together.but it sounds like you just need to get it adjusted..dont give up..they rock..

Are you running 2 fuel boxes? If your A/F is high at idle (13-15) its not that big of a deal. With the gems box your A/F is gonna bounce around quite a bit. You just need to be at 12.5 - 11.5 at WOT. The main adjustments you need to make are green (idle/cruise fuel), Red (WOT fuel), and green/blue (Boost fuel). Remember that boost fuel will add fuel in every mode. Don't be afraid to play with the settings just don't hold it wide open if your A/F's go above 12.5, and BE CARFUL WITH RED AND GREEN/BLUE! if you adjust them to low you can burn the motor down.

My advice to someone using a gems box or any Dobeck box would be don't over think it. These boxes will run differently from day to day, its just the way the are. Get it close and make sure you not lean. My .02

I had some idle issues with my stage 1 also. My altitude setting was at 8. I lowered it down a bit and she cleared up. I'm idling now at around 11.

Also, you might get a higher reading on the boost gauge if your tube is coming off the inter cooler. Where do you have yours reading from? Inter cooler or after?
