MAybe I should start another thread all about this...
BUT.
I did the upgrade from YXR to YVX secondary clutch in my old Exciter... I bet I could use all the same parts and throw the YVX secondary in my ne Phazer... I used a secondary from a 96 Vmax 600, I'm sure the whole setup would go right into my Phazer.
Wierd that Yamaha went back to the old style clutch on this sled.

Here's a dumb question: How do i spread the sheaves so the belt will come off?

Turn it a bit, and push the inner sheave inwards (towards the tunne), then with your other hand jam the belt deep into the sheaves, and pry her out. I can do a belt in 15 seconds.

Thanks for the help Mars. I've got a pretty good handle on cltuching, I did all the clutch work on my Cat 900 myself. I've just never dealt with Yamaha's before.

Oh, no problem...I've got the secondary off and sitting in y lap right here. I can see the numbers on the backside, it's in position one. Where are the letters at?
Can I move the spring to the number 2 position? I just don't see the letter B anywhere?

Letters should be in the helix... Under the spring, you'll see when you take it apart...
Helps to have and extra set of hands before you undo that circlip... or a clutch tool obviously.

I only went 10*. I'd rather make little steps to get where I need. That way I know how much each change affects it. Also, I'd rather still be under peak rpm then over-revving all day.
I've talked to a few companies and nobodies really making clutch kits for the mtn lights yet, so I might just start tinkiering on it myself. I've never owned a sled that didn't get major improvements with minor clutching.
My Cat worked awesome with a multi-angle helix, so I might try something like that...

Holay nice HP/tq curve... shouldn't be too hard to clutch that. 2100 RPM span that makes about the same power.
Well, I just got back. Tightening the spring up brought my r's up on the trail but the second I got out in the powder and put a load on the sled it would drop right down to around 10,500.
Plus it made the engagement and wide-up different. The sled would hit about 8800 and then fell like it just hit a wall. It would hover at 88-8900 for a few seconds then jump right up to 10600 or so.
I'm gonna move it back to where it was i think.
