Buddy of mine has a 2003 rx-1 that uses alot of oil...he wants to put new rings,can he just order rings for a 2005 or are the pistons/compression ratio different? What have some of you guys done to your /03's about the oil usage?

If he has an 03 before I would change. The ring try running some Yamaha ring free first this was a Common problem with 03 there was tech bulletin on this but I loss my copy. What you need to is buy a bottle 16 oz dump the whole bottle in with a fill tank and run it through and after change your oil & filter do not be surprised that the oil is really black that's good after run the ring free al the time put 1-2 oz every tank this should take of you problem also it is a lot Easter an cheaper to fix the reason is because the gas we but today is just crap if you have anymore question let mr know glad to help. I wouldnt dump the whole bottle in, the recommendation is 1 oz for 10 gallons of gas... Maybe run 3 oz per tank for a couple tanks then change the oil. Ive seen where it was over used and broke a chunk of carbon loose and scored the cylinders

He used seafoam and it never changed...it has 22000 miles so i think the rings are worn.

To do a shock treatment you need the whole bottle one can of sea foam will not do it use the ring free this was a problem with the 03 it will work trust me

Yes any Yamaha should have it in the us if you can't get it let me know an can shipped you some let me know

It must be available because my neighbor gave me some and he works for Yamaha .Ring Free Plus pt#YLB-RNGFR-PL-04 is on the bottle but it is only 3.4 oz.

He told my to use it in the Apex with 22000km on it .He gave me 6 of the little bottles to shock it if it starts to use oil.I will use it as a additive 1 1/2 bottles per tank.

Just to be clear for the OP you are adding this to the fuel tank or the oil tank? I always thought it was added to the oil and then run it for 15 min then change oil! As a preventive i thought it was added to the fuel tank. Never done the oil treatment but usually add some to the fuel tank.

You put it the fuel tank NOT the oil tank FUEL TANK ONLY
