My 05 vector has always been touchy when it comes to over heating, well at least the red light comes on easy.Whats the trick for draining the coolant..... Also I've heard that some of them came from the factory with straight coolant????????????????? And the best way of filling completely??? And what this water wetter stuff???? Sorry for so many questions at the same time. Thanks in advance... MM.

When my coolant level was a little low, I just added 50/50 premix coolant to top it off and the light never came on again. You could probably just take some out of the resevoir and top it off with 50/50. Just that little bit is all I had to add and that did the trick.

No exchanger... Yammie added one on the 08 models I think... I've done the 50/50 add to the small overflow tank trick. :o| Hey, do they have a thermosat?????????????????????????????? MM.

did it run low on coolant and you had to add a lot.
you may have air in system , lift rear of sled , run sled , remove plug in rear crossover to get air out then reinstall small plug.

It was about 4oz low is all............. I'll try the bleed off method, thanks. MM.

Put a rear cooler in.........my sled (05 Vec like yours) rarely runs above 185 even in the poorest of snow conditions.

Some did come with straight coolant.

Remove the lower hose that's just to the left (when you're looking at the sled) of the oil tank and drain out whatever coolant you can get out. Prop up the front of the sled and refill with a good 50/50 coolant. Run your sled fully warmed up with the radiator cap cracked a bit (venting) for a few miles to let any air in the system escape. Add coolant if needed.

Water Wetter is a red fluid that you can find at most auto stores. You pour it into your coolant and what it supposedly does is prevent tiny bubbles from forming in your coolant and attaching themselves to various hot parts of your engine and cooling system. More surface area contact for the coolant = cooler running engines. I ran it for a while and didn't notice any improvement in operating temps.

The 05 vectors have running board exchangers. They normally don't have heating problems and they tend to purge air out on their own. Water wetter does very little if any to correct overheating problems. These sleds do have thermostats but very few fail and they have coolant pumps which have been know to have issues. Yamaha recommends changing coolant yearly which may be excessive but many people neglect to service the cooling system which can cause clogging. I'd start by flushing the coolant and replacing with a good 50/50 mix. Run the sled until hot and add coolant if needed (never add coolant when the engine is hot unless running). When the engine cools it should pull coolant into the system so after the initial fill run the engine through a few heat cycles and add coolant if needed to reservoir after it cools. If it still runs hot pull the temperature sensor and check it's operation by placing it in heated water.

Thanks guys............... Sound like I have a spring project. ;)! MM.
