 Hey guys,

Last year I was pondering on wether to buy a Nytro, maybe an APEX or get a bigger Firecat. I ended up buying an '05 AC F7 SP. But now I would like to sell it and move on, and prefierably buy an '06 or '07 NYTRO/ '07 APEX (NEW OR USED...anyone got one?).

All my buddies are totally against me buying a 4-stroke, especially a Yamaha because of there lack in rough trail suspension technology.

I really like the 4-Stroke engine and all its good pro's...The only thing holding me back would be the suspension. I need something rough and tough, something that will be similiar to my Firecat SP suspension or even more aggresive. I like to bash through the moguls hard and fast, and do some jumping here and there.

Would the '07 APEX RTX hold up in the rough stuff?
Would it hold up jumping?

If anyone has positive or negative insite on the sled, please share it. I just don't want to come off a nice mogul bashing sled and a nice jumper and jump onto a sled that bottoms out and can't take the moguls.

If the APEX does bottom out...is there anyway around this? Heavier springs, etc.? I'm sure someone out there has done some modifications to their APEX to make it rough trail, mogul bashing worthy!

:rocks: Thanks in advance,

;)! John ;)!

dont let the suspension hold you back, there is to many other great things about this sled, I can tell you this much when I switch with my brother (05 f7) I cant believe how much better mine rides, a Yamaha sled ever since they went to the four strokes is no question the most sled for your money, buy an 07 rtx now, put 1000 miles on it next winter and if you dont like it sell it and get your money back, but you will like it.
I jump mine all the time and it performs well, sucks up any thing you feed it.
07 RTX, best sled on the planet period.

I have a ApexER and I rode with a F7 last weekend and didn't have any problem keeping up. The suspension will suprise you but I did have my rear shock revalved last summer and that did cure my bottoming. If you want a ditch banger you might want to consider a 08 FX Nytro RTX. 3 Cylinder 1050cc 130HP +, was told by several dealers that the engine will dyno close to 142HP and it is lighter then the Apex by about 70lbs. :4STroke:

wow, thank you for the inspiration!!

My '05 F7 rides rough, you have to pound it to even make it ride a little better.

I LOVE to ride fast, hard, and rough...so I just want a sled that can take the beating!!!!

I test drove an '06 prototype in the spring of '05 and from what I remember I loved it and couldn't believe it was soooo smooth through the bumps/moguls.

But that was a few years ago, I'd really like to take one for a test drive soon here. (one with the CK-SUSPENSION)

***What have you guys seen '07 APEX RTX's going for now that its the end of the season?***

Thanks for the help guys, more opinions and recomendations welcome!!!

Depends on where you are...there are a few dealers in the midwest that have some decent deals on holdover 07s.

I would say nytro if you are buying a 121 inch and want to hit the rough sled this is the sled for you.

My RTX is great in the small bumps but it bottums out in the huge bumps. I havent really adjusted it much yet.

I am selling my 07 RTX. it is in the classified, but here is a quick overview.
Looks and drives like brand new.
Ulmer oil filter relocated kit
cover
med height windshield (also the stock height)

$6950.00 if it sells this week.

i've had 2 f7's. an 03 sp and an 05.sp. they will both handle hard core ,big bumps MUCH better than my 07 rtx but overall the rtx has it over the f's by far. i've got to do something about the bottoming out situation like many others on here, but the other aspects of the sled rock. motor, front suspension, handling. check out other posts on here regarding other 07 rtx rear suspension complaints. if hp does'nt matter as much,go with the fx. it's bound to be able to take the big hits at speed better than the heavier apex.

By the sounds of your riding style I would definitely shy away from any monoshock suspension sleds (Apex ER, GT, 06 RTX, etc.). All of my buddies have been having serious suspension problems with their Apex's this season.

The 07 RTX on the other hand is built very solidly. I've put 3200 km of hard riding on it (ridden much harder than my previous sleds) and the sled is holding up perfectly. Yes, it will hold up to jumping. The rear suspension is quite a bit stronger on the 07 RTX than any other currently available Yamaha, including the 07 Nytro. The 08 Nytro RTX might be the best sled for you, but it will be a first year sled and most likely will have a few updates for 09.

With the 07 RTX you get a lot with the package, but unfortunately the rear suspension calibration could be better from the factory. The skid shocks don't have enough high speed compression damping for really rough riding and when you crank the clicker shock up the ride becomes harsh on smoother trails/smaller bumps.

The other problem is the rear torsion springs don't really give enough ride height for heavier riders so you end up loosing a lot of the suspension travel. If you're under 180 lbs I feel the stock springs would be good as is. Currently Yamaha doesn't have any taller springs available so if you're heavier you will have to hope that Yamaha comes out with more spring options next year. Ross at Hygear (aftermarket) says he will have taller springs available for next season (but doesn't have any yet). The other option is to re-arch the current torsion springs. This is what I did, but I don't really consider it a robust, long term solution (I expect the springs will sag back down again).

The Fox floats and the front end is excellent and it can handle very aggressive riding as is.

The rest of the sled is top notch also. Everything from the riding position, firm seat, tall handlebars, hooked ends, incredible engine, smooth drivetrain, etc. The throttle response will probably blow you away (I can't get over how snappy this sled is).

So basically you get a very solid, durable sled and everything except for the calibration of the rear suspension is top notch. I don't know of any structural weaknesses and you can always revalve the shocks to get what you want. The shocks are all rebuildable and the main rear shock is a high quality, remote reservoire, adjustable shock. Yamaha also has "anti-bottomers" available for the 07 RTX that increase the spring rate a lot for the last few inches of travel. I installed them and with the combination of taller ride height, anti-bottomers, and the shock cranked up a fair bit, it is difficult (but not impossible) to bottom it out.

I don't regret my decision to purchase this sled at all and if I was looking for a replacement I would buy the same sled in a heartbeat (the only reason I wouldn't personally get an FX Nytro RTX is its a first year sled with a lot of new technology in it - other than that it looks like its going to be even better than the 07 RTX).
