First I must say from what I have read there is some great content and contributors on this site. I've just gotten back into the sport in the last couple years. I purchased a '01 MXZ 700 a few years ago and I guess I got bitten by the bug again. Back when I was a kid (awhile ago) I had a few Doo's, Motoski's and a Ski Whiz was my first.

Well I've passed the MXZ on to my son and took advantage of the end of year deals for the new Yam. I rebuilt the top end on that sled this year after losing a piston so I was looking for some long term reliability.

Looking forward to more reading on how to get the maximum potential out of this sled. I have already added a MBRP trail can and I plan on doing the following over the summer:
- add iGrip studs
- Big Venom clutch kit and their secondary adjuster
- 4th wheel kit

Any other thoughts on changes/additions to help this thing get down the lake a little faster or hug the trail a little better?

Welcome. I am relatively new as well to the four stroke Yamaha. I took advantage of the same deals they offered. I came over for reliability and hopefully much less tinkering. I put studs on as well. I changed the skis out to C&A pro for a better trail experience. I am going to add 4th wheel kit over the summer. I’ve got about 750 miles on mine and am really enjoying it. The skis have made a difference just trying to get ski pressure correct. I hurt both arms so haven’t rode in a month to see how my adjustments have worked. I’m hoping to get a few miles in this upcoming weekend. Hopefully UP holds on for a bit. Enjoy your new sled

Hey thanks for the note. Unfortunately I only got about 150km in before we lost all our snow where I am. Now I have to stare at the damn thing all summer!

Reliability was huge for me as well. I'll have to keep ski's in mind next year once I have a bit more seat time.

Get a front skid spring from stingray mods, you won't regret it!

cannondale sells the spring as well and guys are saying snow trackers on the stock skis make a huge difference.

welcome to the site btw!

It's a website! Or use Cannondale, helps on weight transfer & making for easier steering,IMHO, loved how it changed the feeling of mine

Thanks for this. I'll look at this one next winter. At the moment the Viper rides soooo much better than the old MXZ that I'm in the honeymoon phase and wouldn't be able to likely tell the benefits of suspension work because I'm not used to the stock ride yet. Once I have a few 100km under my belt I'll have a better idea of what I like and don't.

Now acceleration, top end, traction -- these I understood right away and I want more of all of them! Lol.

Bud, congratulations on the new sled! There is still a ton of snow less than 2 hours north of you. Load up and go ride this weekend! There is such a deep base, dont let the yellow rating fool you. The Stingray spring is a great mod and the cheapest way to really improve the already great ride. Bill from Stingray is great to deal with, and Cannondale sells the springs and is one of the best guys on this site. Snotrackers, Cat skis, Stingray Spring, and enjoy!!! You will love it.
