2006 Yamaha Apex RTX
Hi Everyone,
Looking for opinions on this, can’t seem to find any specific comments in past discussions. I’m replacing my first belt on my 2016 Viper RTX and the original 8JP belt looks like a cheap rubber thing. The new replacement belt from dealer is an 8JP but looks just like the 8DN!? I have spare 8DN’s from my old Apex, curious if I can just use those now? Or... do I need to look at adding an OSP adjuster or would Thunder Products work or what is the general opinion out there?

The 8DN is a little longer belt and a harder compound belt as well vs. the 8JP. Yes you can use either belt, many use the 8DN but you will need to adjust your secondary clutch and the easiest way is with an adjuster of your choice. The 8DN will need to ride 1-2mm above the clutch sheaves and the 8JP 1-2mm below the clutch sheaves.

You’ll lose a bit of top speed with the 8DN belt as well, the extra length costs a little bit of shift out unless you are set up properly for it.
8dn will also wear you clutch sheaves more than a properly setup 8jp. In my opinion stick with 8jp and make it work.

Couldn't agree more with Cannondale, stick with the 8JP stock belt....the 8DN belt is too hard and causes problems with varying rpms.
Gates has come out with a new belt that we have tried and tested with great results, plus the belt is a good price at $84.50
The belt is called "Redline" and is 40R4313
From their website:
WHY G-FORCE REDLINE™ CVT BELTS?
- Greater heat resistance and recovery, even under severe duty cycles.
- Optimized, patented EE compound maximizes axial stiffness enabling belts to run at higher continuous torques or loads.
- Innovative design results in better acceleration, higher top speeds, less speed ratio and energy loss in extreme off-road environments.
- Improved durability, crack and wear-resistance means a longer-lasting, high-performance power transmission belt for the most demanding applications.
- Reduced Environmental Risk — made without harmful chlorinated compounds.

Thanks guys!
Sourcing that belt now, looks very similar to the new one I already picked up from local Yamaha dealer. Think I’ll use some handy Xmas gift cards and grab this one as well to compare them. Doesn’t hurt to have spares! Lol
Thunder, I’m from Ontario, an suggestions on best way to order your adjuster? I’ve used it other sleds when changing belts and love it! I’m typically the guy in our group that changes the belts for everyone... would love it if they all had one! Lol

We have dealers in Ontario and also can ship to Ontario.
Our adjusters have been our best seller this year and on backorder for about another week. The machine shop has been working very hard to get them out.

Been trying to google a supplier in Ontario, but nothing is coming up? Only 2coolperformance.ca, but their site isn’t working for some reason? Anyway you could provide a few of your distributors? I’d order direct from, just concerned about the duties and coming across border right now... unless you haven’t heard of any issues? Not worried about the back order issues, pretty much everything in Canada is on back order right now, even snow! Lol

Sled Pro in Newmarket used to be a Thunder dealer, but I haven’t been spammed with any of their pop ups lately to know if they still are. Lol

Looked at your website and shipping + duties + exchange rate gets pretty costly. Need to find someone local that carries it, so far coming up empty here???We have dealers in Ontario and also can ship to Ontario.
