I'm considering switching from a 08 nytro shorty to a 2012 apex se 144" I know the ride will be better with the 144" but how about handling on the trail? And is a 144 faster or slower than a comparable 121 apex? I hardly ever go off the trail. I really am just looking for something different to ride.

144 said to be 2 kph faster than a 128 by CR @ YMCA.
Don't know about the handling on a 144. My 128 is awesome once I got it dialed in .

Top speed will be comparable on the three Apex variations. Do you mean Apex X-TX or are you planning to extend the SE? Where do you ride? If its the UP mostly then the track length will be welcome-although I think the X-TX skid requires mods to become a good trail skid. If you ride in WI mostly I would go with the Standard, you are on the trail exclusively and the 128" will handle better and you won't have to mess with an X-TX skid with less than stellar geometry that requires work to be as good a groomed trail skid as coil-over MONO.

I stopped by my dealer the other day and he had a 2012 black apex. it had clicker shocks up from and it was a long track. He said it was 144". Maybe I'll need to go back and take a second look at it. Coming from a Nytro I don't know much about apexs ex they dont have a 121 only a 128. My riding is 50/50 wi/mi.

love my xtx great trail sled with the 144 tip up it bridges bumps better and it handles as well if not better then my 07 gt 121 did. I also ride 50/50 with some mn thrown in as well and love the xtx.

with this sled what are the must haves when you first purchase to make it headache free? Coming from the nytro I knew I had to have wheels, yamaheater, etc.

I have 5500 miles on my 11 xtx.The only two thing I have done to mine is Duponts and Powder pro skis.The stock skis dont belong on this sled, they push in the corners bad...The floatation and cornering is awesome with this setup.Leave the strap in the stock setting,last hole.Love this sled a lot,117 gps on ice and rips in the trails.
