Hey guys....

just found out some info...this might be old news as Ive been away from this site alot since last winter....

As alot of you know many of us who changed our gearing cut our clutches to get our theoretical top speed back....FIX power sports came out with a WIDE DRIVE clutch kit which works well for my buddy....

well,FIX and YAMMIE have close ties, and Yammie watched what fix was doing with there wide drive kits...and also am sure read all about us guys who werent too happy that our belts were not able to go to the top of the sheaves without machining the primary....

well...i just found out that there is a new part number for our beloved 8DN drive belts....
8DN-17641-01-00 (replaces 8DN-17641-00-00)

and sure enough,FIX tells me the new belts are 2mm wider!....which will go along way in bringing our belts to the top!.....the new belt is wide enough that FIX now will run the STOCK updated belt in their wide drive kits!....

so,anyone installing a new BELT may find they have to adjust their secondary settings so the new belt doesnt squeel(remove washers most likely)

Hope this isnt OLD news, sorry if it is.

Took a seamstress tape to dealer found a new one to be one quarter inch longer, no squeel no adjustment required. Just lucky
Ahh so they made it a tad longer to compensate i guess......thanks

My new 01 belt measures between 1.376" to 1.370" and my 00 belt with less then 500 miles on it measures 1.356" to 1.350", only about 20 thou difference, no 2 mm heres.

srxspec posted the new belt at 1.383" vs 1.358" for the old.

Maybe I just got one on the narrow side.

Dan, this has been talked about before, but Ulmer said that he has used this belt for a while and felt there was no performance gain from it. If anything, they said it helped with a smoother engaement. I'm not sure what to think about it and why FIX thinks it's now good enough for their kits. My dealer told me there is no difference and that came from his rep.

There was a big discussion about the XS805 belt and this came up. I have the new belt, but have not had a chance to try it yet in the right conditions.

So, is 8DN-17641-01-00 the exact same belt used with the fix kit?

Here's the real story to the new 8DN-01 belts. The manufacture of the 8DN belts (Mitsuboshi) built a new machine (identical to the old machine) for making them and wasn't happy with the finished look of the cord (frayed I guess) you see on the side of the belts with the new machine so they added another step to the manufacturing process that removes .2mm from each side of the belt to give the belt a better finished look. What confuses most people that will measure belts is that if you measure 100 of them they will all vary in width, thickness, angle, and outside circumference. For example the Yamaha production tolerance on the original 8DN belt for top width is 34.5mm + or - .6mm. That means the width could be anywhere from 35.1 - 33.9 mm and still pass production specs. This helps explain why changing a belt will sometimes cure a belt squeal at idle as the new belt might be narrow than the old one. The new production spec on the 8DN-01 belts for width is 34.1mm + or - .6mm. So in theory if you measure 100 regular 8DN belts and 100 8DN-01 belts you should find the regular 8DN belts should on average be thicker than the new 8DN-01's. All other measurements for thickness, angle, and outside circumference is the same between both belts. In time the only belt available will be the new 8DN-01 style as Yamaha and the dealers exhaust their supplies of the original 8DN. For 99% of Yamaha's consumer base this difference of the belts means nothing and will have no noticeable effect on performance. The other 1% will do what they have always had to do and measure each individual belt in hopes of finding the thickest one possible for their racing needs. Hope this info helps clear up any confusion or questions on the part number change.

8DN-17641-00 (Apex after 5 miles of break-in)
Top width: 1.357"
Seamstress Tape: 44.3125"

8DN-17641-01 (FX Nytro after 40 miles of use)
Top width: 1.383"
Seamstress Tape: 44.5625"

8GS-17641-00 (Phazer belt, new 0 miles)
Top width: 1.382"
Seamstress Tape: 44.5"

So Allen, looking at the FX Nitro with 40 miles on the 01 belt it is still wider and longer? OR, are you saying that the measuremeents are that close and it's meaningless.

hmm, sounds like time for me to start using my free daycos???

Hey guys....

first off,let me start by saying I RARELY post these types of things without my OWN research.....and I should have known better then to take verbatum what this GUY at FIX was telling me....

I also thought 2mm sounded crazy, but he talked about yammie liking there wide kit ect ect and wanting the belt to ride higher and all...GEES! what a load of crap he gave me!....

I did get to measure the two here today as well..and YES the new belt is slightly wider(about 1/2mm wider) but no way 2mm!!!!!!!

My theory here is that FIX doesnt want to keep having these SPECIAL wide belts made for their kits, and is telling all there previous customers who bought those wide drive kits to use the new belt....If FIX is watching this thread,My buddy who owns your kit would sure like to know how the heck a new apex belt will work properly when your kit belt approx 2mm wider then stock belts..

Ive had two guys I trust tell me the rubber is HARDER compound...trying to get more life out of them....but IMO too hard hurts our acceleration, more slippage.

Dan

I never heard they were harder.....
