Got a spankin new engine today. 2 weeks without my sled has been hard, especially since we've gotten more snow than we have in 20 years. Can't wait to break her in hard! I bought this 07 in late January and so far have the following items replaced: Ball joints, tie rods, A-arm bushings, Needle bearings in the steering column, ECU, Decompression spring, Starter, Battery, Rear suspension linkage and associated arms and wheels, headlight pod, belt update and complete engine. All covered by extended warranty. I don't know how much all that work is worth, but its safe to say Yamaha never made a dime off this FX.

I thought you were kidding about getting a new engine! What happened to the old one?

BTW, does the reverse work any better with the belt update? Mine is worse now than before - only engages about 50% of the time and hardly ever if on any slight incline/decline. I'm actually reluctant to put in reverse when there's people around because it is embarrassing to have to get off and shake the rear - necessary because the wife is on the back and not trained well yet for this reverse manoeuver.

I noticed my wife having difficulty with it so I guess its not much better. I have not noticed it, but I use reverse a lot less.

Here is my 15 year old Cobra F1r exhaust I got for 40 bucks. Header wrap from cylinders back to "Y" and repacked muffler. Blocked both holes and installed heat shielding. Not too loud, more throaty than stock and 15 lbs lighter. I noticed a difference on the top end, it pulls harder from 100 km/h (60 mph) up. Looks way better too! Click on link below to hear it.

Ruckus,

That looks and sounds great. Thanks for the sound clip. I think I need to start looking around for a new muffler:) I guess it is about third on the list at the moment. Any tips or suggestions?

if you have any left over bullseye air intake pod things i would buy two off you.... just message me back im on the east coast of newfoundland so shiping wouldn't be much and im going west in april so i could pick them up if you dont want to ship....

I used 2 for the intake, 2 above the clutch and 2 on the rad side. No more left. An interesting note: I gassed it while my buddy held his cigarette next to the intake bullseyes...the smoke was blown away from the bullseye....hmmmmm.

Yeah, Don't be too particular in what you put back there you don't need to break the bank. I coated the front tunnel block off with high heat silver. I would also suggest wrapping the header with insulation (I got some from ebay) and painting that too to keep moisture out. Header wrap adds horsepower too as hot exhaust gas travels faster than cool (especially when constantly blasted by snow). I also drilled about 20 holes per side on the heat shielding above the header/below the tank to allow hot air to escape from the louvers on the side panels. There are absolutely no issues with heat. In fact, the system is cooler than stock mostly due to the excess air space around the aftermarket can. I still used Yamaha's insulation for safety's sake. You won't believe how heavy the stock muffler is, you can really notice a difference when its gone.

Ruckus,

Thanks for the info. The stock muffler is heavy:) I have had it off with the subframe when I closed the front tunnel hole. I am going to keep my eyes peeled for something. I do not want to break the bank on a muffler and also have to worry about noise levels on some.

I tightened the limiter strap up to the 3rd hole and the sled is a fawking knife on the trail. It is amazing what this sled can become with some minor tweaking. It's definitely the Tinkerers Special.

Well I had to weld the stock exhaust back on, my hearing was deteriorating and my ears were ringing for days after riding. I think I'll try an R1 exhaust next.

i have been testing these skis on the apex for the past few rides using the dartless half pipe, they work great on icy crusted up refrozen trails which is where these single carbide style skis have issues.

those skis on that light sled must not make a dent in the snow

I don't understand what you are trying to say there. Do they work great, or do they have issues? Are you saying the Phazer is light? 500lbs is not very light for a 500. What do you mean by not denting the snow?

sorry, what i mean is all single carbide skis have darting issues on crusty, refrozen snow. These skis float great, I am using them on an apex and they float great, your sled is a lightweight compared to my sled that is very heavy. Your sled must barely dent the snow with these on.
the reference to the half pipes(dartless) is for your benifit, give them a try, I used them on my powder hounds and even with my heavy sled it is like power steering, they dont dart on crusty, refrozen trails and steer easy. you can make them for about nothing.

Betheviper, do you have any pictures of your halfpipes? I dont have a clue what they look like, and I sure could use something to stop my sled from darting.
