I see on the 2010 Apex's they have added a second DC plug "RCA style" for heated visors, it says it is located near the left hand grip, anyone know where they put it and how it is wired and if they will sell it as an accessory for the older Apex's.

Fried Heated face shields

Hello-
A word of caution on those heated face shields. I have fried two shields because my 05 Vector puts out 15 volts and the shields I am using max out at 13.6 volts. My buddies phazer also puts out 15 volts. Mine is connected at the jumper leads on my Vector. I tried replacing the rectifier/voltage regulator thinking the regulator was bad but the new one put out the same voltage.
Perhaps other heated face shields have more tolerance for the voltage they will accept. It might be prudent to check the specs on the shields before you spring for one.

I have 3 yammies that are wired for heated shields. All of them go straight to the battery and are the RCA type plugs. All of my helmets(4) are made by HJC and all of them have the heated shields. No problems in 4 years and they work great. I believe in heated shields!!

"I see on the 2010 Apex's they have added a second DC plug" Why would you need a second and why would yamaha add a second?

Here's a pic...

That would be nice. Anyone know when the parts are normally available on the new sleds?

Shivesy, you use fuses with those or just wire it using the kit with the HJC shields?

Directly to the battery, no fuses. I know I should fuse it but sometimes I take chances & this is one of those times or should I say 3 of those times.

The second DC plug in is "RCA" style which means that the heated shield cord plugs directly into it. The other DC plug is the "cigarette lighter" style like what a GPS would plug into.

I use the adapter plug that Yamaha sells which converts the cigarette lighter plug in to an RCA jack. This Yamaha part is expensive but it does work much better than one made for automotive use because it fits tightly into the socket and will not vibrate loose.

Here is what I use. I run it directly to the battery. Some say to use an inline fuse but I don't. Use your on judgement on that. The cord is plenty long enough to run from the battery up to the handlebars. Mine loops downward at the bars so water doesn't enter the RCA fitting. I've found them on ebay for around $12. Also comes with a accordian cord and short cord that has 2 male RCA fittings so it can plug into your heated shield.
