New here, but longtime member on 2stroke side of TY

Engine braking?? I'm never off the gas...lol In all seriousness tho, I'm sure I'll get used to it in not too long. Thanks for heads up tho.

37,000kms (20 some thousand miles) on my 2007 apex, the only thing that pooped the bed (under the hood) was a crank positioning sensor. And a drive axle bearing
.The exhaust donut issue, wears on you but easy to do once you are used to it, change them like you would spark plugs on two smokes and no issues, since you never need to change plugs on an Apex anyways and sometimes an excuse is needed to drink beers
5000kms on my interim 2006 Apex other than standard bearings bushing etc.(bought used)
The 2011 Apex se, 29,000kms(18,000 miles) has had no failures, is about to get it,s 2nd set of sliders, it,s 1st track, grease, bearings, oh it still eat donuts like the police force and does require tlc on the exhaust pipese(if it ain,t the donuts you need to weld the pipe) other than that it,s a fucking Maytag...lol Oh and the sound?? To me it does not take long to get over the sound of a triple triple.....like maybe seconds!!

I recommend a NICE set of skis since these sleds dart like crazy. You'll know when you are darting when you feel like king kong beating on your chest driving down the trail. A few fixes of this is snowtrackers or simmons skis. Basically you want to have 2 carbides so you make your own "mark" on the trail. I just put simmons gen 3 skis which have a long carbide on the inside of the ski and a short one on the outside which makes turning better than just having 2 long carbides, never mind the fact the gen 3's are 8" wide and the 2's are 10". if you do trail riding i recommend the original ones since they are skinnier. Any questions about changing skis or messing with the chain case shoot me a text and i'll point you in the right direction. Also extroverts are a nice upgrade to have since you'll have no ratcheting.

The Simmons Skis come with carbides, and bolt right on? For 425$, that isn't bad for a good bolt on set of skis.
Probably order a set if that's the case.
Lmk Kingtut if you can about my question above.
Thanks for the help.

I found my set from the classified section of the forums here and it came with the hardware needed. I am sure though that they come with all the mounting hardware that is needed from the company. If I recall correctly I had to reuse a bolt or spacer from my old stock skis, but that isn't a deal breaker. I'd scour ebay as well.

I highly recommend the snow trackers for your sled the lighten the steering zero darting and point and click steering the sled goes wherever you point it. also they last for thousands of miles. like 3-4.

I would recommend this too unless you are planning to do what I did and turn the fat trail boss it is into a powder sled for these sleds have a tendency to dolphin dive in and out of the powder I noticed.

ok, I just plan on trail riding, Ill check out the snowtrackers. Keep the suggestions coming folks!

Found these Simmons skis on Ebay, off a 2003 RX-1, got em for $230. Guessing they should fit. Well, sure hope they do...lol

If darting is on the Apex is anything like my previous Yamahas with factory skis, these should really help with that annoyance.

One thing about the ones that have 2 longer carbides is that they can have a heavy feeling in he steering but that's way better than crashing into a tree cause of darting.

Darting was never terribly bad with factory skis, to me anyways, like I said, more of an annoyance. I never felt in danger of the darting, just kinda went with it, rather than fight it. That being said, it will be nice to not have to deal with it.
