Hey all. New to the forum. Very certain I'll be buying a Yamaha in the near future. Anything I search about yamaha sleds points me to this forum so figured I'd join.

The sled I have my eye on is a new leftover 2014 Nytro MTX 162. Dealer is trying to get rid of it for an insanely low price. I'd be riding groomed trails in MN so trimming the lugs shorter would be one of the first items on my list.

You might be saying.... There are way better trail sleds out there. But the reason I'm looking at the 162 Nytro is because I have a young family and would be adding a 2-up seat, and I'm a chair user so I'd also use the extra length out back for a chair carrier.

I gotta go sit on the machine yet and make sure it's the right one for me, but in a few weeks if it's still there I'll probably go for it.

Reason I joined before even buying is I'm a Yamaha atv guy already and any sled I get will have tuning forks on it, and I'm always happy to receive input from others on things like this.

First question I thought of and haven't found answer to by searching ....what is stock clutching like on the mtx? If is high rpm engagement, I'm assuming there are heavier weights from other yammie's that can be placed swapped in? I'd be going for smoothest engagement and low rpm cruising as is reasonable .

welcome to the site!

lots of others that ran nitro mtx sleds on the trails just put in the flatlander clutching to keep it off of the rev limiter but in your case i would reccomend the barn of parts soft start primary spring as most nitros have agressive clutching and it will smooth out the engagement for you. the trimmed down track will work , just keep an eye on it as it will shed lugs faster than a pure trail track will over time.

Thanks for the tips. That soft start spring sounds like a great thing for me.

The specific Nytro I was looking into may no longer be available to me, but there is a similar deal on a 2016 Viper 162. And I'm still keeping my eyes peeled for a good deal on a Venture Lite or Venture MP... Just don't seem good new or used deals on them in my area. But they are more of an ideal setup for what I need ,right from the get-go.
