New Sidewinder decisions.....


2" is definitely too much. I ride trails between lakes and some fun trail riding too. My 1.6 on my Cat is great in the snow and ok on the trails, id just like a wee bit of traction when the lakes are slippery at first ice and in the spring.
I have zero issues sliding the 2" around tight corners, but you have to commit (but less so than a 153 btx with the 1.75) ! What every you decide to run, its your decision in the end haha.

Quick estimate from the dealer ‍♂️

i looked into getting the track swapped from 2" to 1.6" when i was in the loan application stage. 1500$ for the track, 500$ for the exchange..... if they kept the old track i "might" break even, so i said i would run what it came with, couldnt be happier, but dont know what im missing either

Like i tell everybody that sled behind me when i rode the btx "you have to commit, there is no bailing in the middle because you get scared" the 146 with the stealth skiis is nowhere near that intense, and i found that i could slide the back around still, likely i am over carbided in the front that allows me to do that.
 
If I was going new Sidewinder it would be the XTX for sure. I swapped the ripsaw for an Ice Cobra on my 17 LTX LE at delivery and at 3700 miles it looks brand new and I would do that track over again. I want the ski lift so if it was too much I would pull the straps in if it was too much (on the XTX). I also want some ice grip so I would put I-grips in the track. My dealer did comp me a little for the factory track on my 17 after some debate, but it wasn't a break even proposition.

I might be wrong but I believe high speed and abuse (logs, rocks, roots) at especially cold temps causes a lot of lug loss on bigger lug tracks. The cobra paddles might fold a little but its never impeded me as far as I know.
 
Agree. If you watch the videos of the Winders with the 146 uncoupled every time they squeeze it, the front end lifts. Depends on what people like.
IMO sometimes its fun to have the skis always lifting when on the gas. However, if I just want to ride hard and be able to stay on the gas through corners, the 137 is superior.
I own both and can say, the 137 is obviously more planted, but I have zero issues staying on the gas in the corners with the XTX-LE (trail front end). And the ski lift isn't as dramatic as you might think, unless you really want it to be (stock tune anyways hehehehe).

At any rate, Morg13, based on what you described, the XTX is the only thing I would consider. Plus it gives you more tunnel to carry things, just make sure you reinforce it with the Barn Of Parts rear tunnel support before adding weight behind the bag.
