New to site: Looking at buying a 2006 OR 2007 Apex-HELP!

New to site-it's awesome! I grabbed a bad of Dorito's the other night and went through the damn thing looking at all of the awesome information here.

I haven't had a Yamaha since my old 79 Exciter! Been a Polaris guy for a while until a friend let me ride his RX1 the other week for about 500 miles. Boy was I impressed!

My issue now is, I'm stuck on what to get. Being the end of the season, a dealer by my house has a 07 Apex ER for $7,500, or there's some deals out there for 2006s. I have my eye on a 2006 RTX that the guy would take about $6,000 and it only has 500 miles. Is there much difference between the 06's and 07's? Any issues I should know about. My problem comes down to $$. I can get the 07 out the door for $8,000 (includes tax and doc) with a 1 year warranty, or I can pick up the 06 for around $6,000 without a warranty...

Is there any thing I need to know about the 06's that might cost me in the near future?

The 07 RTX is a much better all around sled as far as performance is concerned. The ride on the 06 is better, but I would not let it hinder you from buying the 07. Both great sleds.

Welcome to the site. There is a wealth of info here. I would recommend you go to Yamaha's site, as they have a function that allows you to compare stats on sleds from various years. If someone doesn't answer your question directly, take advantage of the search function as well; I remember reading this site when the first Apexes came out, but who knows how far back that is page-wise.

I think the differences in THOSE two sleds are the front shocks and the gearing. The RTX will have FOX floats up front which saves a very small amount of weight and I think the RTX is geared slightly different for more acceleration. The handlebars and hot grips are a little different too - the 06 hooks were not heated but the 07 bars have heat to the end and are not hot enough for some (most?) riders. Plenty of reading on the hotgrips with the nod going towards a mod using the 06 bars and the 07 hotgrips wire harness.

Can't beat the mono skid for all day trail cruising, nice and comfy will handle stutter bumps and eneven trails pretty good.
the 06 rtx uses a stiffer version of the mono while pretty good not much better than the er in the skid area, but does come with the amazing set of fox floats up front.
issues you will encounter is the less than desirable yamaha ski's faster than normal slider wear and problems with idler wheels , but we have soloutions to these problems, ther is also some cases of rail cracking and w-arm cracking in the mono.
Another issue will be sore shoulders from trying to hold down the 4-stroke power

Usually, it's all trail riding-very little off trail riding.

I said screw it today. I've been farting around about a sled for over a week now, and found a dealer to give me a 2007 Apex Er for $7,000 and the extended 4 year warranty for $425. I figure I can't find a better deal!!

I'm officially a Yamaha guy now!! I just need to get rid of my Polaris jacket. Anyone interested??

I think you will be very happy, I have been a polaris guy. Still have my XCR 800. I now have a APEX ER. My complaints are the hot grips and the windprotection. I bought a Tall powermad windshield and carry Gauntlets on cold days and I am all set. Congradulations and welcome to the site.

if you have a chance to get an attak go that route. i have on 06 that is awesome. i dont know how a short track handles the power of this engine. the monoshock provides an incredible ride. the valving is a litle soft for the sudden hole or dip. on ripple trails nothing comes close that i have ridden or ridden with. if you liked the rx-1 you will love the apex or attak.welcome to the four stroke side. you cant go wrong with either one.

I have been very happy with mine so far and the minor issues I have had, have been fixed with this site. Both are the best in the business. Yamaha should give out this site when selling their sleds.
