Hi all,
I just picked up a supercharged Apex and I have a few questions if anyone can help. It's a Apex MTX bone stock except it has the MPI kit on it. I know it is running an early version of Gems. The sled was set up for higher elevation and that's where I plan on using it, BUT If the midwest ever gets decent deep show I will play with it at sea level too. Talked to MPI and Ulmer a bit to see how much boost I can run on pump fuel. I really don't want to mess with race fuel since getting it out west is not always easy and dragging it out there don't appeal to me either. If I like the sled, I plan on pulling the head and dropping the compression, but I want to ride it and see how I like it before I commit to the work. Sled only has a few hundred miles on it so I think it's been sitting. I have a set up from Ulmer that he says will work, but I'm wondering if anyone else is running a MPI on a stock motor and how much boost are you running and at what elevation?
Just looking for basic set up pointers, tips etc. I have been doing some reading but never hurts to poke around a bit and ask what others are doing. Looking forward to riding it, but have no way to tune or clutch until I drag it west and h\get it up to elevation. I was on snow west but decided to post here since it's a Yamaha I figured might be better response here.
One last question, whats the best set up to carry fuel on the Apex MTX? I was this rack below in the Yamaha catalog but I don't know if it's intent was for a fuel can? Can one even be put on the sled with the exhaust?

Thanks for any replies, tips pointers on this sled!

I ran 7 lbs. at 1800' for three years on 93 octane. Ran 7 lbs. on 91 octane at 8500-10000. Google rotpak. They have many different sizes.

thanks for the reply Ratpack. I noticed now that you are running 10 pounds of boost. I assume you're running some sort of race fuel mix with that?
I did a Google search on rotpak.... is that for the fuel cans you mean? Didn't see anything?

We've run several at 10 psi riding from 10k to 14k feet with no issues; some with a head shim and pump gas and some just all stock motors. For us, you do have to keep the GEMS handy as you will need to tweak it. We also add 1-2 gallons of race on occasion in the stockers if you're running hard but I've run my sled for 7 years on a Stage I kit with no issues ... now I'm running MC-X at 17lbs.

thanks for the reply Colorado Yamaha. So if I'm running 7 or 8 pounds at 8 to 10,000 feet on a stock motor with pump fuel I should be okay? By the way what is typically the higest grade fuel out West? 91 or 93 octane?

RotoPak is a gas can for the back. Sorry I did not say that earlier. I am running 10 pounds now and I mix my fuel with Torco. I ran that last year in the mountains with no problems. I may put a head shim in this summer.
