new to the gps world, tell me your thoughts!

Hey Grimm,

Link didnt work for me, is it just a case of signing up?

I get that they change and I'm ok with that, and updating it too. I had just gotten that years software from them, and for that area at least, it just wasn't even close. I don't mean to bash on their product either, I just wondered if anyone had seen both versions. I'll stick with what I've got if these are more or less the same.

I like the idea of the colour matched trails tho, makes for quick and easy reference to the paper version.

Sweet set up Blue.

Yeah, it looks like you probably have to sign up on the forum to see the thread I posted, but what's another forum to peruse while you're at work eh?

Hey guys,

Red Pine mapping used to sell their maps by US region but now sell a map for all seven of the US states that they cover (Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, North Dakota, New York, Maine, and New Hampshire) for the same $39.95 price. They also have an Ontario map for the same price. They have maps for Lowrance and Garmin GPS units. When I inquired last week about a map update they sent me the 2013 US map free of charge since I had purchased my regional map last year.

I really liked using the Red Pine maps on my Lowrance H2Oc last year. They were very accurate on the Minnesota and Wisconsin trails that I rode last season. They also have great customer service! I definitely recommend Red Pine Mapping for GPS snowmobile trail maps. www.redpinemapping.com

one year report

november of 2011 I ended up buying a Garmin 60csx, and it has been a great tool for winter riding and summer boating/hunting, but now the backlight has gone out on it. here during the winter months we get about 5 hours of usable daylight and alot of our good riding ends up being during the evenings and nights.

since the 60csx is no longer made and very hard to find a replacement, is there company's that can replace a backlight in mine or should I just be looking for a gps replacement?

I really like this gps and I have a ton of waypoints saved now for fall moose hunting hot spots, winter fishing holes and all of my trapline info on it also. if I was to buy a new gps (say a new garmin 62 model) would I be able to transfer my topo map and all of my waypoints to the new gps or would I pretty much need to take both out with me and manually put in my waypoints?

Even though it is a discontinued model perhaps Garmin can still repair it. Did you contact Garmin?

You should be able to transfer your tracks and waypoints from your old unit to a PC and then just load them on the new unit. If you are using mapsouce or the new Garmin software it is easy to do.

i do use mapsource for my mapping software. the more Im reading about the 62s compared to my 60csx the more Im wanting to try to get the backlight fixed on mine.
I did contact garmin about fixing the unit but they told me they no longer carry any parts for the 60csx because its been discontinued for while now and dont have any more stocked items for it.
I guess I got to find an aftermarket lighting company for a replacement...
