70% trail 30% off trail. Depends on snow of course, this year and last I was mostly on trail.

I know there are some guys here from New England running these tracks, can you provide feedback? Are you running studs and if not how's the traction on hard pack?

I currently have the stock 1.25 ripsaw, 114 studs. At least 4 studs have pulled through now, 9700 miles on track.

I am leaning towards the Talon 38 for a bit better off trail hookup.

Also want to hear about what you did for drivers, gearing, and clutching if needed.

Try ice cobra 1.6" pre studded, no worries of rip throughs. I have it on my 128" rtx seems to work good in the 500 km I've put on it. I've heard good things about it in regards to longevity so that why I went that route.

The talon track is a composit track. told it will not last as long. Took one out of an RX-1 the paddles were fine but had a lot of pull throughs.

Yeah I think the pull through is a function of studs/backer type and how much they were torqued down. The track plays a factor to.

The ice cobra seems really flimsy to me just not much meat on the paddles. I can't imagine they'll take the off trail abuse. The reviews on the composit tracks I have seen have been decent.

Cobras are awesome tracks. I had one on a Polairs I used to own and it was about 50-50 trail/off trail and I thought it was great off trail. I had put on about 4000 miles on it and not one lug was missing when i sold it. Thats one of the main reason the guy bought it from me. I think its a great track and I haven't heard really anything negative on them.

I decided to try the Talon 45 it's a 151 by 1.77 by 15 and so far I really like it I have almost 500 miles on it. it seems like a very very durable track .I had the Backcountry 144 on before this and I would say it's comparable. it has about 20% more lugs through the pattern. The Talon is also a 2 ply. No extra vibration or anything weird like that with this track either it's really smooth. I have been very happy with on trail and off trail performance of this track. I will be putting a lot of miles on the next 3 weeks so I will try and get back with some results.

I have the Talon 38 (1.5 x 144) no studs. I love this track it allows a little slide in the corners so helps handling (less inside ski lift). You definitely need ice scratchers on hard pack to keep things cool! Over 800 miles no issues on anything soft, hard, deep. Very well built 2 ply track. You do have to be careful around ice and breaking on hills, but once you get that in your head then no issues. I would buy another tommorrow if I needed to replace it. I did install external drivers on my drive shaft as this is a fully clipped track.

Thanks Pete, your in NH too right? Were you running studs before the Talon? I'm worried that sometimes we need studs here and don't want to feel like I'm riding crippled. But leaning towards not studding. I can always add them if needed.

Yes my ripsaw was studded. I just wanted the better handling of corners so I didn't stud the T38, but you certainly can. I have been stuck a couple of times on ice, but manage to get off. Only times I wish I had ice screws or studs.

I took it out of an MPI RX-1. so the studs were professionally done. Good luck

I'm going with the 45 when I need one. Not many people run studs around here and we often ride fields and lakes. I have a 1.75 and dont think anything less would work for me. It is surprising how ragged a track can look but still keep on going. I will need drivers also.
