My new tunnel showed up at dealer last week, my dealer informed me that it has all the reinforcement plates in it, that the 07's come with. Since I'm fairly new to this site, my question is! How many here have bent their tunnels on their gt.

Wolfie bent one on his GT I believe as well .

Get the plates for reinforcement from your dealer. About $8 each side US or $10 a side in Canada.

Cheap insurance.

Anyone got a part number? I'm assuiming they are alluminum and just bolt to the side of the tunnel and floor board. My buddy just did a set for his ski doo's and polished up they look good. Wouldnt mind them like said for the cheap insurance.

The part numbers you are looking for are:

8FJ-21924-00-00 (left side)
8FJ-21934-00-00 (right side)
90267-47186-00 (black rivets, quantity: 24)
or 90267-47195-00 (unpainted rivets, quantity: 24)

Depending on whether you have a painted tunnel or not you need to get the right color rivets. Also on the rivets you might want to double check the part numbers. I have a suspicion that longer rivets might be needed for the lower 4 (and possibly upper 4) on each side because they have to go through the heat exchanger also (the on-line fiche does not show different rivets for these though). One of them (rearmost lower) even goes through both the heat exchanger and the original Apex reinforcement plate.

Here is a picture showing the extra plates. They are the ones between the black rear suspension bracket and the existing Apex reinforcement plates:

I haven't done it yet, but I doubt you could get a drill in there without dropping at least the back of the skid.

You need to use the plates as templates to drill the missing holes. I guess it's possible you could put the plate on the outside temporarily and drill from the outside but if you have a black tunnel you might scratch the paint.

You don't have to remove the skid, I did 2 '05 and took about 1.5hr each...the worst is to drill out the old rivets.

Make sure to use Yami rivets they work the best, but VERY expensive...and you can also use a hand riveter or if you have a air driven 1 is better...

You'll need 48 rivets per sled if your installing all 4 plates.

I used a clear peal' n stick vinyl from a lettering shop and applied it to the side that touches the tunnel to keep-it from scratching and drilled holes, insert rivets in holes as your drilling to make sure that everything stays alligned, remove the aluminum shavings with a shop vac as your drilling. you only have a few to drill.

Were all the rivets the same length and were they a good length for all locations?

Great tip on the vinyl!

Yes all the same rivets, once done you cant tell difference from factory installed...I paid $1.70 per rivet, but they work great.

I also used that vinyl as a barrier, alum and steel really dont mix very well, cemical reaction occurs when the 2 are not seperated...

These plate really do the trick...

My shock blew, and I bent my tunnel last January. I got a replacement shock and rode the rest of the season on the bent tunnel. Over the summer, they installed a new tunnel, I had the shock revalved, and installed the plates myself in about an hour. The shock revalve is a must for any 06 GT imo. On this photo, I actually had to jury rig the rivet locations a bit, as this is where they relocated my serial number tag. I'm very confident that with these plates, and a revalved shock, my tunnel issues are gone.

Is the bent tunnel situation only an issue for the GTs? Are the tunnels getting bent stuffing the rear end into the ground?
