Hi, new to the site, seen this link at freedom sledder and thought I would check it out as I am seriously looking at getting myself a used Yamaha Apex or Vector?

The first question I have is, how far back should I go when considering a used 4 stroke, ie: is there much difference between say an 05 and 06 Vector/Apex?

I am thinking an Apex GT would fit my bill the best but I also have seen some Vector GT's that look nice as well.

And what about suspension, are the piggyback shox on the GT the best or are the Fox floats/Fox suspended sleds better?

I mainly trail ride and weigh approx 200 lbs fully dressed. I had the opportunity to ride an 09 Apex demo with an 2010 rear skid and loved it, couldn't believe the power, handiling, suspension, braking etc compared to my current 95 XLT SP!

Also what sort of gas milage(range) can I expect out of a full tank of fuel? My current sled probably gets 130 + miles out of a tank and I hope to get close to that?

Any info on what to look for in a used sled would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.................Irv

First, welcome to the site and the world of 4-strokes.

Many of your questions are answered in the FAQ at the top of the Apex/Attak forum. Regarding mileage, you can generally get 13-16 mpg on the Apex and 18-20 mpg on Vector. The GT comes with the premium Ohlins shock package and are the best shocks out there for trail riding.

In terms of model years, the Apex/Attak has had only minor changes since 2006. The Vector went to the DB II chassis (rider forward) recently and someone will tell which specific year.

Lastly, please enter your location in your user profile so that other members know where you are riding.

Thanks for the info Swiss Sledder, I will be sure to check it out. I also updated my profile to show that I am from Canada, Southern Ontario to be exact............Irv

Hey there fellow Ontarian. If I may help you with what I have seen for you. The 08 Vectors are first year for the Vector in the DBII ( Delta-box 2, if your not familiar). The best deal out there is on autotrader.ca. there is an 08 vector ltx the same as what Ulmer is selling, for only 7250 Cdn. It has 9000km on it. Which divided by 1.6 will give the miles. Don't let it scare you as Hondu has 39,000 miles on his Venture. X 1.6 gives you km. Don't let a little mileage bother you when purchasing a used 4 stroke. If our dollar ever gets back to par, the deals on the southside are gonna be amazing for us Canucks.

Hey Irv, glad to see your making the move!

Buy as new as you can afford. However, if it was me I wouldn't go any further back than 05.

Mileage will be great, trade off is the sled will be heavier than what you are used to. You know that Grizzly bullet proof operation and dependability? That's what you'll get in the Vec/Apex.

Check out DT Powersports, they had a new in the crate 06 Apex a while back, a good deal, not sure if they still have it.

I've driven the Apex at the PPSC/Yamaha Demo Day and as you know I have a RS Vec GT. They pull about the same, the only difference I could notice was top end. My Vec is amazing...a great sled, sounds cool, looks cool, and rides fantastic.

Either way, Vec or Apex, you will not regret it. I sure didn't.

Thanks for the info Scott and Ragdoll. I haven't looked at any in person yet but hope to go look at 1 today? It is a 06 Apex GT with 4900 miles and he is asking $6800, not sure if that is decent or not? There is also an 07 with similar miles and he is asking $7500.00. (I will have to check out DT as well)
I have read a couple of posts about getting the rear shock revalved and also a couple about the rear skid breaking in a couple of places, was/is there updates to cover these issues?
Ragdoll, I seen this one, looks identical/very similar to yours but is he not asking way too much?

I have pretty much set my limit at around $6000/$6500 but will consider a bit more if it is exceptional? Thanks again guys, the more info I read on here, the more I want one! ;)! ..............Irv

2003 RX-1? I have found one for a decent price I think?
6200 km's, looks to be in good shape for $4500 dollars, is there anything I should be aware of or is it too old and I will regret purchasing it?
Also, is the right section to be posting this question?. Thanks........Irv

Yeh this is the right place to post, it's your thread after all. Some of the 03's burnt a little oil some are okay. Private deal or from a dealer? Most dealers will service and inspect all trade-ins as they don't want worn out junk going out the door. Other's just flop'em to make a buck. Pull the rear suspension and look for any signs of wear, cracks, worn out wheel bearings, shocks etc. Then pull the front suspension all apart to inspect arm bushings, spindles. Basically, anything that can move and then some. You will become one with your machine and you have all summer to do it. I can't think of anything better to do in the summer. Besides beer and baseball.
