I have a garmin nuvi, and at the end of last year tried to buy updated maps for it. To come and find out the company I bought them from is no longer around. I'm looking for trail maps for Michigan, Wisconsin, and the U.P. I don't mind paying, but want the most accurate with POI for gas etc. my old one did, but it is slightly outdated. Any suggestions?

I've had good response from Jeramey Valley at vvmapping

Very little use/experience with the product but the WI trails seemed to be well matched.

In the process now of shopping for a new high end Garmin unit.

I've got a couple questions regarding your gps becasue im looking at getting one. 1. how did u mount it and 2. was the data download easy?

I use a Garmin LMS1300 series Nuvi. It's a car dash GPS, but it's going on it's third season without issue on my sled and bike without a waterproof case.

The first couple seasons, I used a u-bolt style 1" Ram Ball on the handlebar allowing me to mount it up high or low on the handlebar and run power down to my outlet. This spring I bought a new Apex, so I drilled and mounted a 1" Ram Ball on the stock riser. This is where I like the GPS anyway.

The download was super easy on any Garmin that has an SD card slot. I copy the files to the card, and be sure they are loaded on boot up of the GPS. Redpine gave great directions and advice on turning the detail up or down.

I just saw a 5" Garmin on Woot.com last week for $59. I say go for it. Heck if it bails once per season, buy another. Those expensive waterproof ones with the itty bitty screen are a waste. I like a nice sized screen. I will see if I have photos anywhere

Good luck!

This was last year's mount up high while in the UP. I like it lower now, but it was nice on trails I had not ridden.

Thanks for the response and pictures! Im going to play around with some mounting points on my phazer and see what i can come up with.

Last season I picked up a Garmin 600. Easy unit to use even with gloves on. Maps and routes can be loaded and customized with Basecamp.
Using the Amps Rugged Mount cradle made using the unit much easier. It's a simple click in and out of the cradle. The cradle holds the unit well and also supplies power to the GPS unit.
Using a scrap piece of aluminum I fashioned a bracket between the GPS mount and sled. I like the location of mine as it does not interfere with my view of the gauges nor distract my eyes at night.

I'd vote red pine mapping as well. Been using their maps for a few years in northern MN, northern WI, and the UP with great results. I have both garmin and lowrance versions to use depending on the riding I'm doing. Good luck!
