08 Nytro 40th anniversary
I have an 08 nytro rtx that backfires while cranking and will not start. Engine light flashes and codes 13,25,84 are displayed.
The story is i took it out about a month ago at first snowfall, ran like a top. I always let it warm up before moving it and a couple weeks ago i needed to move it out of the garage to get a car inside. I fired it up and drove it out then shut it off. Put the car in the garage, fired the sled up and put it back in the garage. I did this without letting it warm up (red light out) and last weekend i went to change the oil. Tried starting the sled and it cranked and backfired no start, codes displayed. WTF!! I tried a few times with same results. I run NGK 10's and thought they probably fouled out cuz i didn't let it warm up. Took the plugs out let it sit overnight, put new plugs in and tried to start. Now no crank!! Turns out when it backfired the last time it broke the starter. Found a used one, changed it and the starter gear in the motor. Finally get to crank it over and same result, 13,25,84 backfiring while cranking.
I have last years gas in it which has never been a problem before and i had already drove the sled this year. I'm now draining the tank and putting fresh fuel in it.
Has anyone had this issue before? I've been told to check the crank sensor wiring behind the primary for being cut from the cover. Anything would help!

None of the codes being displayed are codes that will prevent it from starting. Start by troubleshooting the normal problems these sleds have: corrosion in connectors, bad wires near steering post or behind primary clutch, fuses, relays and listening for fuel pump. If you can find an ECU it might be worth swapping yours out to eliminate that as the problem.

Any modifications?

Thanks I am now. I just have a muffler

so i went thru the wiring and found a bunch of grounds together just above the throttle bodies and right below the radiator on the left side of the sled. I started probing them to make sure i had ground. I had the key on and happened to glance over at the gauge and there was no engine light or codes so i turned the key and it fired right up! Is there a way to clean those ground connectors?

Remove grounds and clean with some 80 grit sandpaper. Clean area where grounds mount same way. Use some alcohol on those areas with a clean cloth to remove any sanding stuff left over. I like Fischer Plow anti corrosion grease for electrical connectors and grounds, you can use any anti corrosion grease you prefer. Put some grease on them and retighten on grounding spot.

That'll do it. The smallest thing can cause they biggest problems. In my case I always think the worst case scenario first. I keep telling myself that it problem isnt something major because these motors are bulletproof and likely anit a motor problem but thats never the thought running through me head.
