Anyone know why they scratched in Nome?

I can't find anything on why they scratched but I did find this from the the day before
"Broken skis, bent frames and blown motors have taken about an equal toll on the Arctic Cat, Ski-doo and Polaris snowmobiles that made up the bulk of the field. The lone Yamaha team in the competition — Ron Zugg from Palmer and Mark Niver from Wasilla — is 10th, but nearly 12 hours behind the race leaders."
I am still looking.

I found this on their web site
"Team 23# Ultimately had to scratch out of Nome this year. The Farewell burn took it's toll on many racers this year. Mark and Ron tried to repair the rear suspension of there Yamaha's several times. They had run short on parts and were not able to continue much past Nome.
The Yamaha's were a good machine this year, fuel mileage and ride was excellent. But running 100 miles or better on no snow and frozen tussocks was a tough task. Many teams fell to the conditions and the Yamaha's at least made it to Nome.
We want to THANK OUR SPONSORS for their support, the race would truly not happen for anyone if not for them.
Well the Alaskan spirit runs with Team 23#, hard work and second effort is what it takes to run the "Worlds Longest Toughest Snowmachine Race". You have not seen the last of these two racers.
Our Love for the Iron Dog is as Big as Alaska
Mark and Ron"

There are lots of Yamahas registered in the 2007 Cain's Quest snowmobile race this year, it's on the East Coast and roughly 2000km's in length.

The Yamaha entries are VK Professionals.

The two Yamahas in the Irondog this year did as well mechanically as any of the others.
I am in Nome, halfway point of the Irondog.
Mark and Ron suffered broken parts, specifically suspensions front and rear, as did virtually all of the other riders on Polaris, Cat and Doo. This years race was absolutely horrific as far as the trail goes. By far the worst any rider has ever seen.
Zugg is a Ohlins shock specialist. He built the shocks for the winning Arctic Cat team (Ohlins), as well as many for other teams.
Niver and Zugg are just swell guys, too.
A Caterpiller D8 would have suffered skid problems getting here, too.

There will be at least two Yamaha teams in 2008 Iron Dog
There might be a third team if all goes well. The reason team 23 from the 07 race had to scratch was due to one of the front cross shafts that is part of the cross link bolt broke and in the proccess took a large chunk out of the rail. Ran out of parts to fix, had torque arm problems also.
But we are confident in the new sleds rear suspension for this years race,

Welcome and keep us posted! I have my fingers crossed.
My brother works at the same place your new team mate (Jeff) works.

We are still working getting help from Yamaha for this years Iron Dog. But Cort from Anchorage along with Bob Kowalke are the founders of the Iron Dog and love this race. Cort is very helpful at Anchorage Yamaha, he's a racer at heart.
Jeff and I look forward to racing the new Yamaha.
