Does anyone else hate the way the exhaust sounds while riding? After riding all day it seems to just rattle inside my helmet....Is there any way to change the sound?

Change the helmet. Huge differences in helmet designs. If I switch to a helmet with a shield, it gets real loud. MX style HJC with goggles, nice and quiet. You'll need to fine tune that to your needs, then you'll be happy. Start switching lids with your buds.

The exhaust gets annoying at certain rpms. It is the worst around 5500 rpm (~25 mph). The exhaust noise is practically non-existant around 6500-7000 rpm, which on my sled is between 45-50 mph.
I have ridden with two different helmets, one a BRP modular, the other a HJC traditional, and there has been no difference in the noise level between them. I would be willing to try the last poster's suggestion of trying an open faced helmet because I notice that my exhaust is quiet (well, easier to deal with...not necessarily quiet) with my shield open on either of those helmets.

I love the sound of the Apex but if you're riding for prolonged periods at relatively slow speeds it does drone a little bit.

I'm with you man.. I've decided to sell my sled in fall. I find it way too loud.. my ears ring like crazy.. give me headaches and stuff. its that deep low tone. I'm already hearing impaired.. So I got to think long term... anyone know if the new Nytro is any queter? I demo'd Vector a while back.. I didn't find it to be as loud as the Apex.

I wear ear plugs. Makes a huge differance in enjoying the ride. Use them racing a bike and can't imagine not wearing them for any motor sport.

I have Bender pipes on my sled, and I have noticed more noise from the track than from the exhaust. I have noticed that the "bark" from the exhaust is actually quieter at the slower speeds, and I don't notice as much exhaust noise as I do track noise. I have heard alot of guys switching to the Predator track, but I don't know if that helps noise.
My pipes could get me into trouble if I wasn't careful with the throttle while in town, though. I did take 2 trips to Wisconsin this year, and had no problems with noise, but as long as I keep an even throttle, you don't notice much of a difference. It's when you hammer it that it's louder. I hated the drone of the stock pipes as well, but this was an awesome fix! I did hear a ton of sleds with pipes on them in Mercer that were a lot louder than mine, but none sounded as good!

I did try an MX style helmet also, and loved it. I thought about trying an I Pod as well, maybe that will help you!.....

Soft spongy ear plugs.
Roll them, and stick them in, and they will conform to the ear canal.
For me they are the easiest.

I have a box of those ear plugs, but I use them for sleeping. To take care of the exhaust noise I listen to my Ipod. I would use the earplugs but I find listening to some music while riding makes it even more enjoyable.

Ear Plugs on a stock sled that really sucks. I HATE the sound of a stock apex riding one they have a tinny rattle sound that has some weird resonence that just rattles in your head. I am happy to say any sled I have ridden with Excell exhaust has stopped that. White knuckle makes the problem about 10x worse.
