No kidding, the gas tank neck creates a heck of a racket on my sled. It is the dominant noise below 50mph. The gas tank filler moves around a bit in the plastic tank housing and creates a heck of a noise. I finally found the source of the noise after stopping and playing with every plastic dash item, yup sure enough the filler neck moves just enough to create the noise. Now, you may think that it couldn't be THAT loud, but when you have a sled this quiet you tend to notice certain noises that would otherwise be lost in exhaust and intake noise. It sounds like styrofoam rubbing against plastic. I am wondering if some silicon between the filler tube and the plastic might help the situation. Might just have to give that a try!

I have the exact same noise you are talking about.
I thought it may have been coming from behind the plastic shroud
going around the outside of the tank, because when I put my left
hand on the plastic shroud the noise would stop.
So it could very well be the plastic in the filler neck causing this very
annoying noise. What is the purpose of this plastic in the tanks filler
neck??

Another very annoying noise up to about 30mph seems to be coming
from the clutch. Is this what people are calling clutch rattle??

It isn't the filler neck insert that is causing the noise, but rather the outside diameter of the neck meeting the plastic tank shroud. It only takes a very small amount of gas tank movement to cause the noise. I can move the gas tank neck around on the garage floor, it moves maybe 1/32" each way, but that small amount of movement creates one heck of a racket! Looking at it again tonight, I don't think squirting silicon around the neck will cure the problem. I think this is one noise I will just live with this year, then maybe next year I will completely pull off the plastic tank cover and put some type of rubber / silicon insulation between the 2 components.

Yes, the other noise is the clutch rattle. Honestly, I don't even notice the clutch rattle above idle. My previous sled, a 1998 ZR6, was so noisy I don't even give a second thought to the clutch on this sled! LOL!

Can you cram some foam into and around the neck?????????That may shut that suck'a up!!!!!!!!!!! ;)! :die MM.

Looking at it further-- I don't think it is the neck causing the noise as it has the rubber sleeve isolating it from
the plastic shroud. I will put some foam in the underside
to see if it rids the problem

I have the same dang noise on my '08 APEX, driving ME nuts, I think its the plastic panels kind of rubbing together, i'll try a bit of VASELINE or some type of grease in a very small qty, just kind of smeer'it on where the panels actually touch each other...or rub together.

Darn sled is to quiet!!!

Let us know what you find. I too thought it was the plastic panels at first, and it may indeed turn out to be the panels, but to me it sure seems like the tank since I can recreate the noise just by moving the neck a bit.

i am also having this same noise on my sled, apex ltxgt. is it just the 08's having this problem

Silicon and gas doesn't mix.Pull the neck first ;)!
