2014 Sr Viper xtx 141
So, im new here! Ive been around on the 2 stroke side for a couple years and always loved the site! So figure who better to ask then here!

My buddys like to ride deep powder, where I like to ride trails.... That being said, I stretch my SRX to 144 and loved it. But now im looking to have something more reliable and I was going to stick with 144 since it seemed great for me. On and off trails was seems good.

My problem now, is I found a very nice looking 137 SR viper, which is shorter then what I want. The guy at the dealer swears itll be just as good and is a great hybrid sled... any thought? id like to run atleast a 1 3/4 track, or even 2 inch...
Im new to the 4 stroke, and new to these sleds all together... so any comment and thoughts would be great!

I would suggest the XTX. Change front skid shock spring and clutch and you have a winner. The ride and handling is so vastly superior on the Viper you cannot even compare to SRX (I had SRX in past)

Now can I ask you why change the shock spring? and to what ... same with clutching, what are the reasons to change it... more torque? or ...?

Front shock spring is only 110 pounds and should have been a 160. Makes stock sled feel heavy in the front, changing it makes it dance like an M8.

Stock Yamaha clutching on Yamaha is useable but big gains to be had from changing it.

hmm, looks like I got abit of research to do!! So now im also learning, the 137" track has a completely different skid then the 144 mountain skid?

I have XTX LE ( this year its a MTX model) with a 141 with a 2.25 track. Lots of fun. I can ride trails no problem but the sleds happier in the powder.

One of my riding buddies has a LTX LE with a 137 and 1.25 track last season. His sled is happier on the trails but has no problems off trail just as long as plans his line's. He did just switch to a 1.6 track.

We both have just as much fun off trail, both sled are very capable and both have their stong points.
Well I have a bit more fun but dont tell him, haha

Yep, just as yamahaguys said both have there strong points.

The Viper XTX in stock form (1.6) is very capable...with stock clutching and suspension....play with it a little first....I had the 14 and 15 model.... The Cobra track surprised me!

I also had SRX stretched out with deep lugs...the Viper (a/c) chassis is 10 fold better off trail then what you have...but still very trail friendly.... depends on what your buddy's ride would steer my decision on XTX...or LE.

Biggest difference aside from stock track is LTX has coupled rear skid. Helps keep skis in contact with the trail. XTX skid is uncoupled making it easier to lift front end in powder. LTX STOCK 1.25 Ripsaw II was great on trail, but only okay off trail. Like Yamahaguys stated, as long as you don't get in over your head, it was okay off trail. I switched to a 1.6 cobra on my LTX this year because I want a little more lug off trail without sacrificing on trail manners. I have ridden both XTX and LTX, and my personal preference is toward the LTX skid for its on trail manners. It all depends on what you primary goal is. If you go deep more often than not, the XTX or MTX 141 might be the best fit. If you are a rough trail rider, the LTX might be a better fit as it is still plenty capable in the powder. You're only looking at 2" difference if footprint and the same lug count on the snow due to the difference in track pitch between the XTX (3.0) and the LTX (2.86).

If you want a 1.75 track, it will go right on the LTX. I went with the cobra because so many like that track in most all conditions.

Hmm, Thanks for all the replys! im not looking to do "mostly off trail" but nor am I looking to do only trail riding. So its making real tough to figure out what I want lol . My buddy rides a skidoo freestyle with the 153, and that thing rocks in powder ... he loves powder and I seem to have a hard time keeping him out of it.... So im starting to think I should look into something that will handle it more. Like they always say, if you cant beat him, join him! right? So I guess the hunt starts for a 141-144 ...

Thanks again for all your input!

Don't know if you are set on a new one but Barn Of Parts has a low mile XTX for sale super cheap. http://www.barnofparts.com/

Actually, no I don't want new at all lol! im gonna check that one out!

Just checked it out stingray.... Im Canadian by the time I do the $$ exchange, im still paying the same as around here.

Eric. I think the more that you hang around your buddies the more you're going to want 153 so might not be a bad idea to keep your eyes open for one of those also?? I love my 141 However if I was to do it again I'd probably just get a 153 and be done with it I've tossed around the idea of switching my rails/track out to a 153. I've got the same problem your buddies do once I find some good powder to play in I don't like to come out
