I am having trouble getting the muffler off the sled.
I have everything dissasembled, but the muffler will not pull away from the exhaust pipe.
I do not have the suspension out and would rather not take it out.
Any tips or tricks when removing this for the first time?
Thanks for any tips.

Get a dead blow hammer. If everything is removed and all is left is the can. Then you just need to whack it a little. But not with a hammer. You can get away with a piece of wood and a hammer.

Do you have the bolt out of the exhaust just behind the inlet to the muffler?

there is a rubber plug in the exhaust cover/seat shroud that you need to remove to access this bolt.

Good point! I believe there where 4 bolts to undo total including the clamp..radianguy said:Do you have the bolt out of the exhaust just behind the inlet to the muffler?

There's 3 under the seat plus 2 hex screws behind the tail light... If all is loose, a little twist back and forth while pulling should do the trick!

Thanks for the responses!
It sounds like I have everything ready for removal, I just have to twist and pull harder.

Spray gas on it, works like penetrating oil

Same thing happened to me the first time I removed the silencer.zr8000 said:I am having trouble getting the muffler off the sled.

I was dead sure I removed all of the bolts, but the silencer would still not move.
Turns out that I had removed all of the bolts, but the silencer is one heavy bastard...!
I had to go inside for a double breakfast and even a month of gym visits before I could make it move...

Mine came off terribly hard the first time. Pull and twist, pull and twist.

You can spread the clamp on the muffler with a screwdriver then it will come off easily. The muffler clamp is the same style which is used on semis.
