I know this topic comes up alot but im buying a new sled in the next couple of weeks and im debating between the RTX and XTX. Im edging towards the rtx as I do very little off trail riding. Is the xtx more work through the tight trails? Is 1.75 track overkill for normal tail riding and does it hurt top end speed? Also I have heard that the XTX is faster on top end because of the attack angle of the track? Does anyone have solid proof that this is true? That could alter my decision. I am coming from a ski-doo 800 etec and any info would help. Thanks!

XTX is definitely faster than the RTX!.
the best thing I did to my nytro was put the 1.75" track on it!
Ride both if you can and see what you like.

I'd go with the XTX. I say that having never ridden one, but I would love the capability to take my sled off trail without having a true mountain sled. I am planning on doing a 136" extension on mine next year just so I can bomb around the ungroomed fire and logging trails a little bit. Right now, my 121 just trenches. And I still plan on doing 75% or more of trail riding. If I could go back in time, I would have bought an XTX.

Thank you for the input! I have been hearing the same from everyone except for one guy at the dealer that said he felt the short track was faster through the woods. I was just worried that it would be a complete mule through the twisty trails. Does it handle that much different than the shorty? Also I think its strange that the xtx is faster than the shorty, but I did noticed there is a big difference in track angle.

I have the short track and if I were to do it again, I would go with the xtx.
My buddies stock xtx walks away from my stock short track
if you're worried about xtx being a "mule", look at getting a short track with rail extensions (128 or 136) to help with track angle

I also notice the 7.4 gallon fuel tank on these realistically what kind of range do you get? I would rather not spend the money for an aftermarket tank on a brand new sled!

Id rather not do skid extensions etc. on a brand new machine. Is the handling difference that noticeable? Im coming from a 136" renegade ski-doo which handled great. I am not at all expecting the xtx to handle like my old doo xp but just don't want it to be so horrible I regret making the switch.

I absolutely love my XTX. I rode with some Doos last year and kept up with them. It takes a bit of getting used to and lots of rider input but on e you got the feel of it it rides awesome. I don't see any difference between it and a short track on the trails. The only thing that makes it a mule is it's weight distribution and as said previously rider input goes a long was to make this sled excel.
As for fuel I was getting around 100 consistently with aggressive riding. I spent $30 in parts and relocated my taillight to the back of my tunnel and am installing a LinQ tank to extend my range. May consider a trail tank to in the future to really extend my range if wanted but that's off in the future. The LinQ can adds 3 gallons and can be removed for short rides if you don't want it on there. Feel free to ask me any particular questions about the ride of the sled of you want. I also just did a build thread in the garage section highlighting a lot of cheap mods for these sleds.

You gotta remember the xtx rails are tipped up. They say it rides like a shorter track sled in the trails and floats like a long track in the snow.
when I change sleds with my buddy, I can feel the longer track but you can still make her dance in the trails...
with my short track i've seen 100 mph once, on the dream meter and it was a perfect day(hence why i bought a clutch kit and header this summer)
I know the long track is over a 100 mph all day everyday and if you have to do any lake running- you want the extra mph
as for the tank size.....if you do tons of trail riding gas stations aren't far apart, just don't pass one without putting some fuel in
otherwise their both a ton of fun to ride in the trails....the torque is unreal

Thank you! I am getting a brand new left over 2013 xtx 1.25 in black there are some great deals out there. I plan on putting a Hauck clutch kit, K&N pod intake, fuel programmer, studs, and something for the exhaust. Hauck tells me I can add 10 horse with their headers, but the Barker set up claims it gains 10-12 horsepower form just s slip on muffler alone? not sure which route to go.

It says their nitro "kit" is $1300 and need to buy different clutching components for it on top of that. Doesnt really say what it includes.Where can I find your thread with all the mods you have done?

If you do a search something should pop up.
Its' a full hindle exhaust, pc5, airbox mod. The kit does rip too! You will need to get a clutch kit to harness the extra ponies, He recommends either drag n flys or 2 speeds I think. I used 2 speeds last year and going with ulmers this year.

From all my research there is no way the Barkers will add that much HP with just a slip on. Everything ik mechanically and have learned through this site supports that simply because to get more HP you need more flow. More air coming in (K&N kit), more fuel (fuel controller like a PCV), and better flowing exhaust is what is needed to get those gains.
As for exhaust kits. There are tons out there and you just need to decide what you want to spend and how you want to do it. I wanted undertunnel and came across a member who made one using a stock header and a magnaflow muffler which is what I had decided to do myself but the timing was right and buying it from him saved me the hassle of fabrication. In talks with Ulmer if I add the PCV and k&n filters with a proper fuel map to my exhaust set up I will see that 12 HP gain.
Personally IMO get the sled and ride it this season and go from there. There are other cheaper mods to add based on your riding style before you jump into an exhaust. And once you start modding it's hard to stop. It's like an addiction

Again thanks for all this info! Ill probably just put a hauck clutch kit in this year after break in and do more for the following year. The sled I have found the best deal on has the 1.75 inch track. Do you see any issues there for general tail riding?I spend most of my time on trail. Also I was hoping to be able to get atleast 96 picks up the middle for icy conditions.
